This past weekend I got to meet John Romita Jr. at Great American Comic Con in Vegas. He was telling some stories and was gushing with admiration and respect for his father and his work. He said that his father is a much better artist than he usually got the chance to show and mentioned that one of his paintings is actually hanging at the Smithsonian. It's apparently a Women's Army Corps poster from WWII that he painted when he was 19! I was wondering if anyone here knows which one it is, and can point me towards an image of it. I love the art from both Romitas and it was a great experience to hear the son talk about his father's work with such reverence and respect, especially about something I had very little awareness of and would love to learn more about. |

As someone who's studying to get into the business of sports I see a lot of emphasis put on genes. Yet really it isn't as common as you might think that the talent is passed on. It happens but we dream on it more than it is real. In the comic world both Romitas are so gifted it clearly happened here. SR. has done tons I respect the hell out of. But not to be sold short, Jr. did two of my favorite series of all time! World War Hulk and Sentry. That's a wonderful recruitment poster, and knowing who did it, it absolutely needed a place in the Smithsonian. Kudos to whoever had the foresight to make that happen. |

@WCollecbales Thank you for posting that! It really is an amazing piece! It definitely fits in among other WWII posters of it's time but there's still details that you can recognize from his comic book art. I would love to see more of his paintings! @Johnnylray That is a gorgeous drawing! Count me in among those insanely jealous of it! |

@dielinfinite @BrianGreensnips @EddiePaxil Thank you all. I started my hobby way back in the 70's writing for autographs and just writing letters of appreciation to many. It was always fun to see any response from whom I had written. | ||
