CLZ ends deal with Go Collect16052

Collector CrocHntr private msg quote post Address this user
I’ve used CLZ for many years now, and I subscribed specifically for the ability to catalog my comics, upload my own images, easily reference key details (purchase price, seller, notes, etc) and to always have the most recent inventory for my collection (including data export and ability to view within an app). The GoCollect price guide feature was simply a more recent added bonus. CLZ makes software updates quite regularly and, in one update, added the feature with no additional cost to me. So, while I did start to get used to the price guide feature, it’s by no means a deal-breaker for me. I’ve always been extremely happy with the software and support until now, and expect it to continue in the future.

That said, I’m certainly disappointed that the price guide feature is gone. It was a powerful tool. I’m also a direct GoCollect subscriber and have had mixed results with their software. Given the new (awful) design and split with CLZ, I’m going to cancel my long-running subscription. I just wish GPA captured CBCS sales (and maybe dropped their price by a bit) and I wouldn’t even think twice.

If you drink, start doing so. If you don't, I think there are some anti anxiety non prescription pills you can take....

This kind of looks like some sort of pimping operation gone wrong? Go Collect had the goods but Sleaze was making the $ so CG tried to get a larger piece from Sleaze and now they are both worn out and discarded where no one wants what they have no matter what corner they are on?

I was thinking CLawZ lol! Any lawyers out there? Grounds for a class action? We had it and now it's gone.

I wonder if CLawZ will do their ow API now that they see how appealing it is for collectors and what a big draw it is for a subscription business. Because once they get their CLawZ in ya, it's hard to get free

I just got a reply from CLZ about them doing their own API,

I am afraid we will not create an in-house solution for comic values.
That would be much too complex, time-consuming and costly. There's a reason companies like GoCollect, CovrPrice etc.. have big teams of developers and content managers to do this as their main business.
And there's a reason they charge high monthly subscription fees for users to get access to the accumulated pricing data.
We prefer to stick to our main business, to what we do best, that is, create great cataloging software. For values, we will have to set up a collaboration with a 3rd party that already does this, and does this as *their* main business.

change management is awesome!!

just found out on a group call with like 50 people that pretty much my entire department reporting structure is changing - but since me and 1 other weren't "directly" affected this came as a total surprise!!

Thankfully I've been here 18yrs and don't really care too much - there was a time when my 'manager' was in California (I'm near Niagara Falls) - I'm use to working with little to no direction - still would have been nice to know I was reporting to someone new before the call though!

Bad stakeholder management and poor comms plan.

I've been using CLZ for several years and was really pleased when GC Values were integrated. Now super disappointed to see them gone.

CLZ has always been a solid product and priced fairly. The GC website is a hot mess and recent changes are awful. So, if I had to guess who crapped the bed on this deal, my money is on GC.

I need to go watch it again but wasn't GoCollect working hand-in-hand with WATA and all their scheming to inflate prices of video games?

It there a regulation in corporate America that states that the word "vacation" must always be preceded by "well deserved"?

I saw where he posted that on the CLZ Facebook group too.

I don't think he needs to reinvent the wheel, but to buy up already built infrastructure. GPA and CovrPrice have crappy interfaces but good back ends. GPA could cement their top dog status but at least merging with CLZ while GC crashes and burns.

Just ended my grandfathered in subscription to gocollect. I looked up several books and noticed they didn't have any recorded sales for the last 2 months. Great job gocollect for letting paying customers know that the service we were paying for wasn't working. I will probably go with covrpice or just use 130point for a while.

GoCollect was my go-to for quick prices for a long time and it's frustrating how useless it is now. I can't believe they torpedoed their comics interface while adding posters and video games.

I agree. CP has way too much in graphics and not enough in speed. It takes 10 clicks to add a book to your collection. Take a look at adding Airboy Comics and see a disaster in the making. The back end looks to work well though. It found my purchase price of Four Color II #12 raw. It is the interface that sucks.

CovrPrice just responded to my inquiry for those interested in importing your collection from CLZ

Thanks for reaching out and for giving CovrPrice a try. Yes, we offer a free importing service to our UNLIMITED members. All you'll need to do is send us a CSV file (e.g. an export from CLZ) with the following details:
Series Name
Issue #
Series or Issue Year
Variant Info
The more of the items above you send us, the more accurate we can be. We seem to be able to import 70%-95% of member's collections. If we can't match the comic we won't import it and will provide you with a list of the items that were not matched so you can then add them manually. To see our UNLIMITED membership options you can click here and select the one that works best for you.

Please let me know if you'd like to move forward with this.

Thanks again!

Just subscribed to GC like 2-3 months ago. Then they go “upgrading” it and frankly, it’s more like “up-crapping” it! So many of their useful n user-friendly features were killed off. If I still don’t get use to the new-age design in a month, I’m pulling the plug.

Yeah, I'm there, too. Such a shame, too, because while the site wasn't flawless, it was easily the best place to get quick, up-to-date info. Not anymore. I hope sucking up to the poster-collectors and video game enthusiasts was worth it to them.
