A while ago I submitted 5 books to Comic Book Pressing Service in OK. and 4 came back with some damage. Enclosed are B4 and after pix. Has this happened to anyone? The presser said the pieces fell off in transit. Ridiculous. And some of these pressers say they won't be responsible for any damege. Any advice would be appreciated. ASM6 has piece mising at bottom ,,ASM13 has lower staple damage and FF52 has piece missing top left. What do you think this will do to the grade? Thanks much!

On the older books it's possible.

On ANY book it's possible. That's always the chance one takes when pressing. Still very nice books, though. |

Did they try and dry clean them? That type of damage looks more to do with them trying to clean the books than pressing... Always be cautious of pressing services that use before and after pictures of mostly bronze and modern books. Older books have to be treated with a bit more care and aren't as durable. |

Some books are fragile. While I have only had 1 out of 100 damaged, it is a risk the submitter takes. I have had a few books where I felt the book had bits so poorly attached, I sent them in for grading without pressing. And even then, sometimes they wound up fully detached, etc. It is a risk you take as part of the game. |

The professional pressers I see with good reputations typically charge a screening fee to ensure it is safe to clean and press the comic

Murray..I'd be ok with that...Do they then include that as part of the entire fee if they pass? What is the fee? And could you give a reference?

@tonyz58 CBCS has a press screen for a small fee. If the book looks like it can be safely pressed to a higher grade, you then pay the screening fee and the pressing/cleaning fee.

Thanks...have used you B4..thought I'd save time with the backlog of books...thought I'd split them among several pressers to save time...am using you again esp with items I don't need right away such as silver age..

I believe the disclosure for damages is pretty universal among pressers, but I would only use a presser who states that they will not press a book if they think it may result in damage and that they will determine the best process. Pressing shouldn’t be a catch all service. Good luck with the other books. |
