I enjoyed it, and I have to say that I think it's one of the better superhero action films with a female lead. Wonder Woman still tops it, but it's also unfair to set the bar that high.

Taskmaster! Cool! This is fun!

The movie's take on Taskmaster was fascinating, in my opinion. In the (comic book) past, the character has sometimes gone over-the-top, depending on how things were handled, but not this time.

I watched it for the first time last night and really liked it. It almost felt like a Bourne movie at times. The only thing I don’t quite understand, and this isn’t a criticism against the movie itself, is why they released it when they did (as in after Endgame) since the movie is a prequel and doesn’t do much to recontextualize what had come before in Endgame. It very much feels “in the middle” of Natasha’s story and I don’t think it works as a goodbye to the character after Endgame. It just really feels like Marvel should’ve made this movie five years ago. |

@dielinfinite I have to wonder if some of the reasoning for the timing might be so that fans of the character will have a chance at a 'send-off' of sorts for her. There wasn't much potential for that in Endgame because it was sudden, very little fanfare, and not the traditional way a superhero is supposed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. This movie also gives viewers a glimpse at just how much "red" there might be in her "ledger," and how it might be possible that the reason she didn't get to have a flashy, heroic exit is because until she chose to sacrifice herself the way she did, she did not feel she had earned that honour. Still too much red in the ledger, at least from her viewpoint.

Quote:Originally Posted by sborock Neither do I but I think the characterization of the MCU as basically a big TV series has some validity and so far it has always felt like each movie, even set in the past or very far away, advance the overall story in some way. I guess it makes a little more sense looking at it as the start of Phase Four instead of as an epilogue to Phase 3 and if Yelena and the Black Widows go on to be a major fixture of the phase going forward. This is also a space storytelling-wise we haven’t been in for a while, where Marvel has to build up their overarching story from the start. Iron Man was just Iron Man save for the Avengers teaser at the end so we knew we were building to the Avengers. After that first phase we knew Marvel was building up to Thanos and the Infinity gems for the next seven years of films. Right now we’re at the place where we don’t know where Marvel is going quite yet. |

Maybe they just like me better. Nah, that's not it. | BPaxson002 private msg quote post Address this user
I found it to be incredibly mediocre. Instead of giving Natasha a real solo movie, Feige opted to make it a family movie so they could intro a new widow. Taskmaster was wasted on this movie. The character had no real purpose. While I don't mind the twist they used, it was executed very badly. And after 10 years of Budapest, they blew it. If it was a comic, I'd give it a 4.5 on the grader notes. |

My wife and I watched it yesterday. We enjoyed. Quote: Originally Posted by dielinfinite As far as Wikipedia knows, it is the first movie in Phase 4.
