Predator “detested”?15936

So this morning i was reading the latest top movers blob post of Matt Tuck at GoCollect. When it came to Predator #1 commentary i was, of course, very interested. About halfway through, i had a Scooby doo “hhuurrh” moment. Here is the excerpt: “ Another factor is the new Predator movie that recently finished filming, reportedly titled Skull. The latest movie appears to be steering away from The Predator, which most fans detested. Instead, the upcoming entry is not so much a reboot as it is a prequel.” Am I alone on an island? I loved The Predator. The sequel, Predator 2, I thought was a big let down. And, being honest, I also thought AVP was a let down. But the first, to me, is a classic. So, I ask what forum members Loved and what members Detested the Predator? My vote After much shock I realized that Tuck wasn’t talking about the first movie he was talking about the 2018 release which was forgettable for me. LOL |

The Predator was not the first, it was the most recent, and was poorly done and rather ...contrived as a plot line. The original movie, Predator was quite well done and even the sequel, although rather campy and funny was a good movie as well....AVP was decent, while its sequel was rather lame

They are referring to the fourth film. The first film in the series (not including the AVP films) is Predator, followed by Predator 2, Predators, and the most recent is The Predator The last film was not well received |

Don’t get me wrong, I did like P2 and AVP. To me though, they didn’t stand up to the original. AVP 2 and 2018 The Predator were forgettable.

Predator (1987) is phenomenal. It is a classic. I will stand by that as long as I live. I have a growing appreciation for Predator 2. It tried to expand a bit on the idea of the predator species coming to earth for centuries and using it as a hunting ground. Danny Glover may have been a little miscast, but he held his own. AVP had some interesting concepts but like several crossovers, just felt lacking to me. Predators was an honest effort to recapture the feel of the Arnold classic, but just feels a little off at times. AVP2 and The Predator were just not good to me.

@Scifinator I guess that we are on the same island. I loved Predator! Got to watch it again on Amazon Prime about a month ago before they started re-charging for it. The movie was like a reality death match (like Schwarzenegger’s other movie, The Running Man) before reality TV became a thing.

I've enjoyed all of the movies in the franchise and usually end up watching them if they're on TV (AVP: Requiem being my least favorite) I love the original....and I think Predators was very underrated. |

I had to watch the trailer to remember if I saw The Predator. I did, which I think makes it forgettable as opposed to detested.

Didn't see the most recent one but the original is a classic! "I ain't got time to bleed." I liked AP2 as well. Not sure if they'll ever capture the spirit of the original, but maybe the new one will be decent. |

The first Predator movie is a must-see classic! An all-star cast of action heroes and more than enough lines of dialogue to quote. If you are flipping through channels and stumble across it, you just have to make some popcorn and sit down to enjoy the ride.

I always wondered if that chain gun that the one guy carried was factual..if so thats one serious piece of hardware. Unsure how we could ever lose a firefight if thats a real weapon the US currently deploys

The first one works so well in part because it starts off as a normal buddy action movie and then morphs into a sci-fi horror film with an un-seen creature hunting and killing off everyone. Since most of the FX were of the practical kind it really holds up well even all these years later! Ya know...my LCS has the first mini series for like $80 - I might have to pick it up, I already have a #1 but I could always do with a second one! Really liked Predators and yes...the last one was not so hot |

The chain gun that was used is based on the M134 but it would need an external power source (usually electric) to operate.

Mac's cutdown M60E3 would have been the logical light machine for that team to be carrying and using. The thing that drives me nuts is that you have several members of the team carrying MP5's. A totally useless firearm in the jungle. A 9mm round would not penetrate the foliage. |

I dont do much with guns, and just keep a 9mm for perimeter defense here at home....but when that dude would fire up that gun, it would level everything in front of it in a sweeping motion for like fifty feet outwards it looked like. It had to be firing a stupendous number of rounds...and I kept wondering how they were being stored and carried. |
