What are some annuals I should pick up15856

Masculinity takes a holiday. EbayMafia private msg quote post Address this user
Annuals, if they weren't reprints, were often an opportunity to tell a longer and more complete story. I tend to remember them being some of my favorite and most fulfilling reads. I've kind of over-looked them as a collector but now I'm thinking about picking some up, both to read and to collect. Anyone got some favorites that they think I should pick up? Either for collectable purposes or for reading purposes?

I never cared for the globetrotting continued stories that encompassed every annual published in a given year.

Of course Avengers Annual 10 is a good read along with the Fantastic Four Annual where Black Blot and Medusa get married. Number 18, I think.

I'll throw in a vote for DC and recommend Superman Annual #11 with its fantastic 'For the Man Who Has Everything' story by Alan Moore. So fraggin' awesome it even got animated.

That story was reprinted in DC's trade paperback of "greatest Alan Moore" stories and I believe also in "greatest Superman stories". It's really good, and I think Mongol is a potential break-out villain.

Unfortunately I can't get past the price of Annual 1 and I can't get past the cover of Annual 21. Is it a good read?

There's even an easy way to work him into the DCEU already. Mongal croaked in THE Suicide Squad and that had to rankle daddy-o because it was just embarrassing the way she got axed.

Will second (third?) Superman Annual 11. Awesome!

Have owned a raw copy of Avengers Annual 10 for about 30 years and still havent gotten around to grading it… haven’t read it in… 30 years? Not sure what that says.

If you just want a stand-alone story this is one I remember fondly from my past. It's not among the greatest of all stories... but for a kid, it was pretty good. Still a favorite.

Marvel Two-in-One Annual #7

(Don't read the overview/synopsis unless you're not going to read it as a comic.)

Back in the day, Armageddon 2001 from DC comics was a great read. I'm not sure how it holds up to the storylines of today, but they were fun to read. I feel the books below are some with the better stories.

Superman Annual #3 - Armageddon 2001 tie-in (really cool story that has a The Dark Knight Returns twist to it).
Hawk & Dove Annual #2 - Armageddon 2001 tie-in
Teen Titans Annual #7 - Armageddon 2001 tie-in

Another really good one. As a bookend for it, I'll add Swamp Thing Annual #2, where Swamp Thing descends into He!!. Has many occult-themed guests, so it's also considered an early appearance of JL Dark.

Avengers Annual 7, but you’ll also want to read Marvel Two in One Annual #2 as they are a continuation of the story. Reader copies are still very affordable.

If you happen to like Alan Moore's writings he wrote a number of DC annuals in the 80s.

Swamp Thing Annual #2
Superman Annual #11
Batman Annual #11 (he wrote one story in that one)

You got me on that Batman Annual, though! That's such a great Clayface story, too, and with some nice art from George Freeman, who was on the original 70's run of Captain Canuck.

I don't like the way MJ is written and the guy who is attempting to talk her out of marriage the entire time grates on me.

I just looked up some of the pricing in the Mile High comics ad in it. In 1987, a Giant Size X-Men 1 was 72.00. X-Men 94 was 90.00. An X-Men 120 was 24.00, 129 was 9.50, 130 was 11.00, Daredevil 158 was 21.00, Daredevil 131 was 3.25, and most of Miller's run was 2.00 to 11.00. I stopped looking up books. I got depressed looking at those prices.

This was the one I always wanted as a kid but didn't have the money to pay for. Finally read it last year, it wasn't very good:

This is the one that sticks in my memory from the early 80's:

This is the one I remember enjoying reading more than once:
