Avengers vs. X-Men in the MCU15818

Maybe someone has already thought of this but with the way Marvel plots out its movies, wouldn't Dark Phoenix be a great Thanos level type "Big Bad"? Sure, Kang is the next major villain for the next 5-10 years, but after that storyline plays out and with introducing the X-Men, I think setting up Dark Phoenix as the next big villain would be pretty cool.

Instead of the Shi'ar fighting the X-Men, you have the Avengers fighting the X-Men. You take the time over the years to build up Jean's character and then she makes for a tragic story with the Avengers at odds with the X-Men. And by then maybe enough time will have gone by that everyone has forgotten the prior Dark Phoenix movies and how crappy they were.

I think that could work out very well. Dark Phoenix is a great storyline, and it could make for an amazing movie arc. Also, anything that can wash away the bad memories of those cruddy movies! So bad they aren't even good fodder for Cruddy Movie Night!

As a side note, my vote for best superhero movie for Cruddy Movie Night would probably be Batman & Robin, possibly in a double feature with Catwoman. So much to mock...

I tried watching Batman and Robin again recently. My God it's awful. Definitely a winner for Cruddy Movie Night. If I had been drunk, I think I could have found it hilarious. I've managed to avoid Halle Berry's Catwoman so far...

Oh yeah, Batman & Robin is so awful, and yet it's a howl if you get a bunch of folks together for an evening of epic mockery. Catwoman isn't quite as 'good' simply because it has no charm, and for all its buffoonery, B&R does have a certain silly charm to it. Totally don't blame you for avoiding Catwoman.

Big no on the Dark Phoenix story line translated into the movies. They can't get it right. It's too complicated.

Forget origin movies. Everyone knows who they are by now. Have them kidnapped by Magneto and Mesmero in the first movie. Big climatic volcano scene. They miraculously survive. The cliff hanger and lead in to the second movie is that they come out in the Savage Land. Dinosaurs, Sauron, and Savage Land Mutates. The third movie can have them run into Alpha Flight on the way back from the Savage Land and have a big free for all.

They can even spin off an Alpha Flight and the Great Beasts story line (movie).

@DrWatson I’m down for a Savage Land storyline. I think that’d be pretty bad ass. Who doesn’t want to see Wolverine fighting dinosaurs?!

I'd watch any of them fighting dinosaurs! It's DINOS, dude!!! Yup, I'd go for a Savage Land story arc. That would be super-cool AND it'd jack up the value of my X-Men #10!

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
If they actually drew it out over 5-10 movies like they did with Thanos, I could see it possibly working. It hasn't so far, IMO, because they try to throw it all into one movie. But the Phoenix storyline also worked in the comics because the characters were established and they could work in the emotional beats of the story, so you can't really introduce the X-Men with the Phoenix (if they want to go the same route in the movies). The X-Men would already have to be there.

I think there are a lot of routes to bringing the X-Men in with what they've established. Maybe Doctor Strange and/or Wanda have multiverse weirdness and they just pop up wholecloth. It could be sort of a reverse Decimation story. Maybe the Brood are in Captain Marvel 2 as the rumors said a while back and she runs into them fighting out in space. Maybe Thor and the Guardians meet the Shi'Ar and the X-Men are fighting D'Ken. Maybe they show up slowly, one at a time, as enemies (Rogue for Captain Marvel, Magik for Strange/Wanda, maybe Storm for some reason with Wakanda) and the X-Men are the big bad for a phase or two. Lots of options.

or they go the route it looks like they are, with the multiverse of madness, and create infinite universes . Once they take that step, they can have an x 23, hugh Jackmans wolverine and a dozen others. They can have the x men , x factor power pack, new mutants and even x pets for that matter. Just hope they are careful and pay attention to why that did not work out so well for DC way back when.....
