Hey Guys! Can someone from Canada post some experiences on sending books straight to CBCS Dallas and receiving in Oakville or getting it send straight to home? Any duties problems or any Pros & Cons on all the options? Also what's the speed differences and savings? It's my first time and I would like to send hundreds of books but kinda reluctant to do it cause of unknown duties hits or books getting lost in transit. Any tips anyone?

I had a batch delivered to Oakville on June 17, they are as of yesterday shipping back I believe. But on the flipside i also have a 2 day modern batch sent directly to dallas, delivered on June 29th , and it is still in the submitted stage. So I would have no idea what to expect at this point.

@Rongro So it seems like submitting to Oakville is faster? Did you drop the books off or mail into Oakville location? Thanks!

@Vboi Thats the thing, it should be slower, they drive them from oakville to dallas after you send it there. I also see people talk about getting the 2 day moderns back within a week or 2, and I am almost at 3 months. This was my first time so I do not know if the submission via canada is oddly quick or is the 2 day modern ridiculously slow. Might not be normal for either? I cannot say at the moment. One thing I also find funny, not cbcs related, but I live in Edmonton and it cost me $30 to ship to oakville, and cost me $20 to ship direct to dallas.

@Rongro Wow good to know, I was thinking of shipping to Dallas because it should be faster, but maybe now I might ship to Oakville. How long did Oakville take to process that they received the books?

@Rongro which carrier did you use to ship to Oakville? With Signature?

@Vboi Purolator, I think they automatically add signature with insurance. But they don't actually get a signature since covid. At least in Alberta cause it's a literal shitshow here.lol

@Rongro LOL, same here! Canada Post just leave it on front door even with signature. So I'm kinda worry sending hundreds of book in 1 shot and it's left on front door, anyone can take it just like that.

Ok!! work computer away ....now on personal computer!! We'll start with current world rather than pre-covid Currently sending through Oakville is slow and painful. If it's for your PC rather than to sell then it's ok. Last order I sent through Oakville took 14 or 16 weeks to show as received in Dallas - likewise the last order I had sent back through Oakville was the same. I have sent direct to Dallas and back then it was like 2 or 3 weeks to be received - I think they are 5 weeks now? Direct back from Dallas was only 2 weeks or so I've sent direct to Dallas but with CBCS Canada paper work - took about 4 weeks to be received - still processing but it will be returned through CBCS Canada - hopefully better turnaround by then?? In pre-covid times the Canada option only added 2 or 3 weeks to the whole process. Pros and Cons.... Canada CBCS Pros = cheaper shipping to and from Oakville and no hassle with FedEx for brokerage fees (no customs fees are due unless you have restoration work done). Also, if you live close enough - there was a time you could hand deliver them in Oakville (never did it myself although only 30 minutes away). Cons = since covid the turnaround times are eye wateringly long.....looking at like 28ish weeks total just for receipt and return shipping - never mind the actual pressing or grading. US CBCS Pros = quicker TATs Cons = FedEx will bill you for brokerage fees even if CBCS includes the right paperwork (which they do) - BUT!! - you can 100% get the fees waved by calling and explaining that you have the right paperwork - there are your own books being returned after "appraisal" and you can't control how CBCS sends them back to you (FedEx will say CBCS used a corporate account and they should have used some other type) Another con = much more expensive to ship to and from the US AND...depending who you use, you will loose visibility to tracking side note?? Using CBCS Canada your final bill will be slightly different that what the invoice says. CBCS does not have a Canadian bank account so they charge you the US equivalent and of course the amount they calculate is at a slightly different rate than the bank or your credit card so you may have a savings or extra charges of a few % because of these rate differences. Also - my last order I have as pickup in person in Oakville - we'll see how that goes - will easily be into 2022 before it's ready!! |

@KatKomics WOW 28ish weeks, man that's crazy! That was probably when in lock-down right? Maybe much better now? What's your suggestion? Should I send to Oakville or straight to Dallas then back to Oakville?

Quote:Originally Posted by Vboi hard to say...covid is still messing with things - my May 9th order ( tracking sad delivered to Oakville on the 12th) was only just marked as received in Dallas on Sept 3rd - so almost 4 months!! My Feb. March and April order show no signs of returning anytime soon. Now the Feb and April are PC books (well April is a mix - maybe half will get sold) but the March order will be picked up by MCS in Dallas when it's ready and all will be sold. Maybe some others with more recent orders will chime in? If the books are all for your PC then I would just go through CBCS Canada - but don't worry - you could go 4 months like I (and many others) did before they show as received - as long as your tracking says it was delivered then they have your books - it is really, really hard though to have no acknowledgment for months and months and months No idea on future return times - you would hope things will be better as we get into 2022 no? |

@KatKomics That is really funny. The invoice for my submission through oakvile, was 802$ and it says i owe 3.20$, but they also charged my card $830 , so i am having customer service look into it. No one has mentioned what you just said. Makes me laugh that a customer would know more than the customer service. Some Peter guy has been looking in to this for 2 weeks and he has no idea why i would be overcharged.

@Rongro Then can I use the US form to send to Oakville and back using CBCS membership to get a discount? I just bought a bronze membership without realizing that CBCS Canada don't give discount for members.

@Vboi I am not too sure, i couldnt find out if canada got a discount, so i sent to oakville, and of course like you said, no discount. I am not sure if sending to Oakville with the US form is possible,no one on the phone or email could answer it for me. One think I can tell you, I shipped from Edmonton to Dallas, its was $20, when i shipped to Oakville it was $30. Also using the Canada hub, your books come back through the hub. So all i can tell is there is no benifit to use the canadian hub. I sent my next 2 directly to Dallas.

No discounts for CBCS Canada - DON'T send to Oakville if you are doing 2 day or fast pass etc. - it takes about 12weeks (or more) to move from Oakville to Dallas I've only done it once but shipping to Oakville with the US paper work is possible - Oakville is just a forwarding service - no staff, they don't open our packages - so they get opened in Dallas like every other package. That order is still processing but it also has local pickup in Dallas - apparently if you write on the order "MCS to pickup" they will hold it and MCS will indeed come pickup the books and match them up to your profile and set them up for sale! If you use the US form you can't ship back to Oakville - it will just come straight back to you |

@KatKomics @Rongro If I send straight to Dallas for a 2-day modern, what's the turnaround time to get it back home? 1 month or way longer?

@Vboi It should be within 2 weeks i believe. Mine are over 3 months. They said i never included the paper work and thats why it sat there for 3 months( i think the person opening it accidentally tossed it, but i cant argue it as i really dont remember 100% for sure from that long ago) but now they are being graded after i reached out to the president to look into it. I am sure my experience is a one off( god i hope)

This is a good thread. In quoting shipping down to Dallas, it doesn't seem that expensive. But does anyone in Canada know what kinda of range the return shipping from the US would be? I know it would vary based on how many books but has anyone found those shipping costs to be exorbitant? Are the brokerage fees (I know you can fight these) high as well? Just wondering if anyone has any actual dollar examples. |

I sent 14 books in, fast pass and fast press. Return shipping charged was $70 USD for ground. FedEx brokerage will be $25 CAD when they come back.

I've never had it be more or less. Regardless of it being 5 or 10 books. All you are really paying for is the customs clearance paperwork. With GST it comes to $26.78. I'm looking at a FedEx invoice right now.
