Based solely on graders notes should I risk a CPR?15733

I have a problem with fattening women up. Bronte private msg quote post Address this user
I have a submariner 1 9.6 cgc white pages old label.
I bought it for about 670$ so if it breaks even at 9.6 or even drops to 9.4 I would not take a huge loss. But the potential gains are huge.

Grader Notes:  Bottom Back Cover Lite Crease  Spine Stress Lines  Top Front Cover Lite Crease

I only have the one photo currently. I need to go fishing for the book to get better pics.

In a heartbeat. No mention of color breaks, the upside downside is heavily in your favor!

If we could see the stress line or crease I could give a better opinion. That said without seeing them, I would sit happy with the 9.6.
Press isn’t an automatic. I went from a 9.6 to a 9.0 because of a press. It may not happen but it does happen.

Lite creasing is the go to catch all phrase of the cgc notes world. I wouldn't put a lot of stock into it.

If you think it will benefit from a press via a thorough eye inspection, then go for it.

This is the only flaw I could find on tbe Cover. But I am NOT grader. My grading skills suck. Hence my shipping everything go get pressed.

@Briten
Was it an d label? I have had grade bumps on all my old cgc labels except for 1 book. It had chipping and stayed the same.

My understanding (which is limited) is that those old labeled ones are graded on the heavy side. I have heard several stories of getting a regrade and it going up because they were so stringent back then. I'm known to be wrong quite a bit, though, so take that with a grain of salt.

@DrWatson

Current notes don't mean squat for me, they basically are phrased to get the book pressed even if it's already been pressed by the cgc sister company CCS. The old labels are a little different in my opinion. There was no pressing back then, so ambiguous notes weren't as much a money maker as now.

@Puckster

My luck so far on old labels has been positive. A hulk 181 8.5 that graders notes read like a horror story came back as 9.0 with better page quality than the cream when I mailed it in. Only one book broke even. And got same grade

There was pressing back then, but not as prevalent. Brulato, Schmell, and Ewert have been pressing books for ages. I wouldn't CPR with those chips. I don't think it would make a 9.8.

Doug Schmell is the owner of Pedigree Comics. Tom Brulato is a very high end collector. Jason Ewert got caught by the cgc micro trimming and submitting books and was banned from submitting.

@Bronte man, beautiful book. I agree with the chipping, I wouldn't risk it. Keep it in the old case because the person who buys it from you might pay more with the same thinking of a possible grade bump. Let them make that decision. Congrats on that book

@Batman66

Thank you. I remember being pissed when I bought it because a 9.8 showed up the week after I got this one. However, given the current prices, it's nothing to sneeze at.....

@Bronte yeah, that's some equity you got there. Just wait until sub is introduced in the mcu. Mine is nowhere near yours, I picked up a couple extras to sell off when he does

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
@Bronte Agree with the others...if not for that slight chipping I'd say go for CPR but I think 9.6 is the highest grade.....fantastic book!

This is so true. Of the 7 books I have coming back right now, 6 have "Lite spine stress to cover".

Plus, it annoys me that they use the word lite instead of light. Using lite makes it seem as though the creases are reduced in fat or calories.

Thank the Lord. That would drive me insane until I got it off.

On second thought, it isn't my book. Roll the bones. If it comes back as a 9.4 I haven't lost anything.

Leave the book as is.

Missing chip after a press and you can not do anything but eat a 9.4 and lose $$$$

I have bought and sold through Doug for years. Saw him all the time when I was working shows. I just bought two books from his last auction.
