CBCS Graded

CGC Delivery Confirmation15729

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
I don’t know if this has been mentioned before but I stopped over at CGC’s website to gawk at how expensive it is to get trading cards graded (seriously am I missing something?) and I noticed a feature on their web page I hadn’t noticed before

I remember bringing up something similar to this back when @SBorock was asking for suggestions and feedback. Given how bad the situation has gotten with orders not being updated as received (I have a May 20th delivery that still hasn’t been acknowledged), a feature like this would be very much appreciated.

I think CGC added this a few weeks ago. It's actually a pretty nice feature, and I think it would be advantageous for CBCS to have something similar.

It's like the Roach Motel for comic collectors. chester15 private msg quote post Address this user
When you put in a tracking number of a package that has been delivered to CGC, you get this message:
Your package has been delivered and is securely stored in our facility. It will appear in the Submission Tracking tool once it has been opened.

I guess this takes some of the worry out of it, but you can also input the tracking number at the carrier's website to see if it got delivered. The new tool confirms it from the CGC side, so that kicks it up a notch. You're not just taking the carrier's word for it. Delivered and "in possession" can sometimes have different meanings.

I think this has been around since the Neal Adams signing last year, since I used it to check on mu books I sent to that event. It is exactly as it seems: You enter your tracking number (in my case, USPS) BEFORE bold text your order is marked received, to see if your order has been delivered.

In my not so humble opinion, this is more of a tool for CGC than customers. Now CGC will not be getting a billion calls from people "where are my books?"

You enter the tracking number at the carrier and it says it has been delivered + you enter the tracking number at CGC and it says it has been delivered = RELIEF

You enter the tracking number at the carrier and it says it has been delivered + you enter the tracking number at CGC and it says it hasn't = PANIC

I don't say this just to slam CGC, because I would also expect the worst of other companies, but do we think that they actually have someone accepting boxes and typing their tracking numbers into a computer? Or do they have a widget like eBay that looks up the tracking number you type in and reads if it's marked delivered or not?

Or putting it slightly differently, is this actually verifying that CGC has it or is it just looking up the tracking info and telling you something you can already look up?

My thoughts are that they just scan the item into their database when it arrives. That to me would be the easiest solution.

Retyping is a waste of time if you can just use a hand held scanner.

Well, from a liability perspective that would be immensely stupid.

It would mean they are confirming delivery on their end and communicating that to the customer as being their (CGC’s) confirmation… so if something was misdelivered by the carrier and in fact not received, they are on the hook.

Oh, and Ebay’s widget is not the same because Ebay is not the receiver. There is no suggestion that they are confirming the recipient in fact received anything. No reasonable expectation that they would know.

Almost certainly this. I worked in the receiving department at my University’s bookstore, apparently one of the largest in the state, and every day we would unload hundreds of boxes and scan the barcode on each one so we can verify we received everything we were supposed to.

I would be surprised if CBCS doesn’t already do something like this. It would just be a matter of making it client-facing.

Yes, but then you know that you need to start contacting someone and can do so while you can still file an insurance claim. Even if you panic, it’s still a better situation than waiting for six months only for your books to never appear

They've had this feature since early this year, I think. But the post office already tells me CGC has received my package.
Seemed pointless to me.
Thought it was more of a "sure, wait times are forever and we raised prices, but look at this new feature!"

I’ve received “parcel delivered” notifications from USPS a solid 4-5 HOURS prior to receiving (we have security cameras). Have also had items “delivered” that never were delivered and resulted in claims.

If CGC is confirming inbound receipt that is definitely worth something. Especially if customer service is otherwise difficult to reach.

I concur. 'Parcel delivered' and 'parcel received' are two separate actions, and the 'received' action is really nice to have confirmed.

It's been around for awhile. During one of the boards "upgrades" it was not working for awhile.
