Weekly Cover Contest #262, Stuck On A Deserted Island...15647

Collector michaelekrupp private msg quote post Address this user
I have to say this was really a tough choice. At first it sounded like heaven. Sun, beer and brisketโ€ฆ Then you said only ONE comic book and I realized maybe this was really the other place๐Ÿ˜ง! A bound volume or an omnibus would probably be more practical, but since you specifically said only one comic, I have decided to pack this one:

This is tough. I was thinking my one book would be something to read but it would need to be more than one issue for a full story. And those wouldn't necessarily have great covers. So since this is a cover contest, I'll just pick this to look at while I'm stranded. Maybe I'll get rescued one day.

If the individual is stranded on a deserted island for the rest of their life, and re-reading the book periodically, that 9.8 isn't going to matter much.

This is my choice. There is no way I could limit myself to one regular comic book. I'd need at LEAST a full shortbox!! But a Cracked magazine still gives me humor and entertainment while not reminding me that I do not have any comic books!! And come on ... a deserted island?? It's gotta be "Jaws" related!!!!

If I was stuck on an island and had to choose only one comic, I'd definitely pick The Legion of Monsters #1. I sometimes grab it and read it to put me in a better mood.

When I was a kid, my father gave me his old collection and this was one of them. These two are not the original that my father gave me (as they got burned up in a fire when I was a kid) but I later bought these two copies for sentimental purposes.

The first pic below was a reader copy, which I reinforced by installing Clear Self Adhesive sheets to the front, rear and inner covers. Added pieces to the front and rear covers, and installed new staples. Now it's waterproof, reinforced, and I dont have to worry about damaging it. The second pic below, is a collectors copy I bought for my personal collection, and I'm still patiently waiting for CBCS to start grading and slab Magazines....

If it's just one book, then it has to be pretty epic. How about a comic that has two super hero teams - the X-Men and the Teen Titans, and some awesome villains? So you get Darkseid, Dark Phoenix, Deathstroke, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Robin, Starfire, Raven, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Cyborg, and Changeling. Add in a script by Chris Claremont and art by Walt Simonson and Terry Austin, what's not to like?

This is a copy of the first comic book that I purchased. We were on a ferry to Vancouver, BC, Canada. My sister threw it out the car window in Washington state. It scarred me. I have several copies now and I just read it again the other day.

This book captured my imagination when I was young. Even years later I've spent hours making up alternative endings in my head for the story. Some even included a cross-over with the Justice League arriving to fight the Sentinels and save the day. Or the arrival of some of the various alien races in the Marvel Universe to rescue the survivors. I think that's why I would want it, because every time I read it I could kill time coming up with a new way that the story ends.

@southerncross There's girls in X-men 141. It just challenges the imagination a bit because they wear Sentinel Concentration Camp jumpsuits.

@EbayMafia is the winner of this weeks WCC with 23 votes.

Congratulations!

Very interesting contest theme this week. I didn't partake this week because I had absolutely no idea where to begin. Having read comics since the mid 60's, the story arcs that are dear to me were multi-issue. No one single book really stood out for me.
