Weekly Cover Contest #262, Stuck On A Deserted Island...15647

How do I know this? Because I've done it myself. lawguy1977 private msg quote post Address this user
The rules:

You vote three check marks for your FIRST favorite
Two check marks for the SECOND favorite
One check mark for the THIRD favorite.
You do not need to vote for three covers, but it is strongly encouraged!!! Let's have fun with this!!!

A new theme will be chosen each week, so participants must find a comic book that fits the theme

- One entry per person.
- Must be real comic books in circulation.
- Magazine size books are also okay.
- The book does not have to be in your collection.
- Variants are acceptable.
- The previous winner is allowed to win in this contest.

Each week we will vote on who had the best cover.

- Friday begins the new contest.
- Wednesday at 12 noon EST is the cutoff which starts voting that will go through Thursday at 11:59 PM EST.
- Please vote through the built-in "three check marks" system.
- Don't vote early.
- The winner will be the cover with the most check marks.
- Vote three check marks for a favorite, two for the second favorite and one for the third favorite.

The winner will choose the next theme and begin a new thread.

In the event of a tie, the deciding factor will be if the entry was of a book in a CBCS slab (only one book in the set needs to be graded; if multiple are CBCS graded then the highest grade applies). If both books are in a CBCS slab (or neither are) then the cover with the most three star votes wins. If they are still tied, then the one with the most 2 star votes wins. If the tie remains, then a sudden death contest will decide the winner. All tied contestants are to enter a new cover based upon the theme of that contest. At 9 pm EST, Friday, the cover with the most votes wins.

Re-post these rules in your new thread to keep them easy to find and for new folks who want to play.

The list of previous contests and winners can be found in a pinned thread on the top of the forum.

**Please No Early Voting**

The topic of this week's contest is what comic you would want if you were stuck alone on a deserted island. In other words, it's just you, an endless supply of Corona beers and beef brisket, and only one comic that you can have with you for the rest of eternity. Choices can be for the art, the story, both, or, hey, if you want to go literal, you can pick a cover featuring a deserted island. Regardless, feel free to include a story as to why you chose that specific book. It was fun to win this past week and I hope everyone has fun with this theme.

I kept going back and forth between this and the Batman Hush storyline, but this is still my favorite Batman story of all time. I read it at least once a year, and I think it's iconic. It's defined Batman since it's release.

My mistake! I thought the topic was "Stuck on a Deserted Isle" so I quickly posted this book ... then I went back and read it right! If you really were stuck on an isle, it would be pretty masochistic, for a variety of reasons, to have this as your only read!

This book is my earliest memory of buying comics from the corner store spinner and reading it on my front porch.

If I'm alone on a dessert island I'll assume I'm in need of the "warm and fuzzies".

I always remembered this comic as the climax of Kingdom Come with its theme of choosing between normal humans and superhumans, and Captain Marvel choosing Life. (It helps to remember the entire mini-series though.)

Not sure if it counts as a "comic", though it is "comics", but.... C&H are the best, I'd put the entire collected edition here, but you did say just 1:

If you have to know why then you’ve never read it. So, go out and get a copy and read it.

So, I have to pick 1 comic book to be with me for the rest of eternity?

to be continued...

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user

I went with the literal deserted island but this book could serve to remind me to stop at nothing in preparation for the day when the Stone Giants really do appear on my island and grind my bones to make their bread.

Too bad story arc's don't qualify, so I'll whittle it down to this one.

I chose this because it was the first comic I consciously remember buying.

The first comic I ever read. Literally, this is a scan of that same book from when I was in first grade. It's aged well, and since it's a newsstand will allow me to retire in relative luxury.

My mother was telling me to stop reading all the time and go outside to play with the neighborhood kids. I did and for years put comics aside. Then one day I made a trip to the drugstore and bought a HUGE comic with 4 great stories in it. They were all super hero battles, some of the greatest stories I ever read.

So while I would be tempted to put a BOOK like Son of Origins or Batman from the 30s to the 70s, I'll stick with the Treasury Edition that drew me back into the hobby.

So I am thinking that "1 comic" means just that, no collected edition? I'm still thinking on what single issue to choose, but I am narrowing it down.

Ha, to those that are posting slabbed comics, how are you going to crack those out of the cases on a deserted island, with a rock? Those 9.8's will look pretty rough afterwards IMO.

I have to say this was really a tough choice. At first it sounded like heaven. Sun, beer and brisket… Then you said only ONE comic book and I realized maybe this was really the other place😧! A bound volume or an omnibus would probably be more practical, but since you specifically said only one comic, I have decided to pack this one:

This is tough. I was thinking my one book would be something to read but it would need to be more than one issue for a full story. And those wouldn't necessarily have great covers. So since this is a cover contest, I'll just pick this to look at while I'm stranded. Maybe I'll get rescued one day.

If the individual is stranded on a deserted island for the rest of their life, and re-reading the book periodically, that 9.8 isn't going to matter much.

This is my choice. There is no way I could limit myself to one regular comic book. I'd need at LEAST a full shortbox!! But a Cracked magazine still gives me humor and entertainment while not reminding me that I do not have any comic books!! And come on ... a deserted island?? It's gotta be "Jaws" related!!!!
