The rules: You vote three check marks for your FIRST favorite Two check marks for the SECOND favorite One check mark for the THIRD favorite. You do not need to vote for three covers, but it is strongly encouraged!!! Let's have fun with this!!! A new theme will be chosen each week, so participants must find a comic book that fits the theme - One entry per person. - Must be real comic books in circulation. - Magazine size books are also okay. - The book does not have to be in your collection. - Variants are acceptable. - The previous winner is allowed to win in this contest. Each week we will vote on who had the best cover. - Friday begins the new contest. - Wednesday at 12 noon EST is the cutoff which starts voting that will go through Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. - Please vote through the built-in "three check marks" system. - Don't vote early. - The winner will be the cover with the most check marks. - Vote three check marks for a favorite, two for the second favorite and one for the third favorite. The winner will choose the next theme and begin a new thread. In the event of a tie, the deciding factor will be if the entry was of a book in a CBCS slab (only one book in the set needs to be graded; if multiple are CBCS graded then the highest grade applies). If both books are in a CBCS slab (or neither are) then the cover with the most three star votes wins. If they are still tied, then the one with the most 2 star votes wins. If the tie remains, then a sudden death contest will decide the winner. All tied contestants are to enter a new cover based upon the theme of that contest. At 9 pm EST, Friday, the cover with the most votes wins. Re-post these rules in your new thread to keep them easy to find and for new folks who want to play. The list of previous contests and winners can be found in a pinned thread on the top of the forum. **Please No Early Voting** This weeks books should include the incorporation of negative space to solidify the composition. Since a buddy the other day with a BFA and an MfA said "What????", here is the wiki definition: Negative space in art is the space around and in between the subject of the image.... Abbreviated version. I'm not sure if this is going to be to specific of a contest but I love these covers. I still come across one now and then I've never seen so I feel like there are enough of them out there. Also, I may have been accused of using the weekly cover contest to make myself a shopping list but what are ya gonna do???? I hope you enjoy collectors, it was cool to win a contest and tough to try to find an original contest after all of them. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Towmater Basically, Negative Space refers to the part of the image that is not the subject. Every image has negative space but the contest is specifically about pieces that use the negative space as a integral part of the piece. You will see a lot of characters defined by a lack of rendering as opposed to being the subject rendered, often using minimal details to define a solid background color into a shape your mind can “fill in the blanks” and recognize as a character |
