Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? | Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@lawguy1977 - if you are asking me, my issue as mentioned was that the movie was poorly written and didn't develop the character. Just seemed rushed to girl power mode. Kinda felt the same about Captain Marvel as I did Batman/Superman & Justice League movies...each felt like they should have been 2-3 movie releases to properly develop. |

I think public discussions like this about societal change has a positive effect overall. I think that hearing peoples perspective helps to modify, or shave the rough edges off of unrefined initial positions. I believe it can have a moderating effect and introduce people to perspectives they hadn't considered before. I think when people just stay in their own heads or find an echo chamber...that's when positions get more extreme and more solidified.

They signed Brie Larson to a 5 or 7 movie deal if I remember right, seems like they would have plenty of time to delve into the character and her motivations as they move forward...not sure why they would have to tell you everything the first movie out the gate, especially if they branch off and do the Rogue thing with her, or perhaps tell how she becomes Binary.

@Scifinator I can’t really disagree with you. Captain Marvel was pretty bland, but like you said it was writing, acting, plot, etc... For some people though, it was a woman portraying a character that had always been male (They missed Monica Rambeau. Boy would that have pissed them off!) or Brie Larson and they hated the movie before anyone had ever seen it. That group is a big part of the problem in this country and I think people are tired of it. Now, in your defense, you’re a solid dude (No one who likes Joe Satriani could be an evil person) and I think you’re just trying offer your more moderate position and maybe the position a little less moderate for balances sake. For what it’s worth, I don’t think you’re one of those people who hate a movie based on gender or race. Anyway, I am starting to wonder if comic book fatigue is settling in. I don’t think diversity has anything to with it. I think we’ve had 50 or so super hero movies in 13 years and that’s a lot. Finally, it is nice to discuss this in a world where are getting the comic movies we are. Really awesome time to be a comic fan. I saw some kids grandmother correctly identify Gamora at birthday party. Wow! |

I think that's mostly correct. As great as the majority of Marvel, and some of DC, movies have been. It's been... just... a LOT. As much as I love the super hero genre, I just want to see other things also I do disagree that the diversity has nothing to do with it, I think it absolutely does, I just think fatigue is probably a (the?) major contributing factor. Well, that and I know I'm not going anywhere near a movie theater right now, I don't care if my kid was the star of the movie. Quote: Originally Posted by Jabberwookie |

@xkonk Wow. My wife cooks. I do the dishes. I wonder what that means.... Never heard of cosmicbook until this thread. My morbid curiosity might get the better of me. As for where I get my movie and comic news, in case anyone cares, I typically look at Collider.com and CBR.com. I used to go to Newsarama but I feel like it's not been as good since Games Radar took it over. |

and? you apparently failed to read what you are posting...... "In the U.S., members of the Republican Party have been increasingly using the term to criticize members of the Democratic Party, while more centrist members of the latter use it against more left-leaning members of their own party; such critics accuse those on their left of using cancel culture to damage the employment prospects of those who are not considered sufficiently "woke.".[2] Bacon connects this "anti-woke posture" to what he sees as the Republican Party's long standing promotion of backlash politics, such as conservative backlash in response to political gains by African Americans and changing cultural norms respectively.[67] Former U.S. President Donald Trump has frequently criticized wokeism and its adherents. At an Alabama rally in August 2021, Trump criticized Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, asking the audience if General Patton was "woke," then added: "You know what woke means, it means you’re a loser...Everything woke turns to shit."[68]" Incidentally my posting had a standard click no offer to accept notifications, rather than an actual paywall...your bad... oh and YW. Next time you might try reading before you post things, thanks |

I was going to try to lighten things up by asking how everyone feel about the weather today? About as neutral as one can get with a discussion topic, right?. But then I thought to myself ... it could deteriorate to global warming ... and then I had visions of World War IV in the near future on here. So I will not ask how does everyone feel about the weather. Can we all maybe agree that 1 + 1 = 2? (Please don't throw stones at me if you disagree) |
