How much do missing ad inserts affect the grade of a comic15569

Collector Slurpin private msg quote post Address this user
Hello all, so i plan on sending my first cbcs submission and 2 of the comics are missing the ad inserts. New Mutants 98 has no jewelry ad and Spiderman 238 has no tatoos. Im guessing this will hurt the actual grade but will the labels still come back blue or something worse?

I believe even without ad inserts you can still get a 9.8. I know I've seen cgc 9.8 asm 238s with missing tattoos noted on the label. They came back with a green label due to it, not sure if cbcs would note it on the label or just in grader notes?

@Sebastsk8 If it got a green label then the missing tattoos are a significant flaw that CGC decided to overlook to give the book a higher grade.

CBCS does not have a green label so they would certainly hit the grade for it and and would most certainly be mentioned on the grader’s notes if not the label as well

Things like the missing tattooz have been a moving target. Just going by Overstreet, if you look at a current guide there's a big gulf in value between an ASM 238 with tattooz and one without. Go back five years, and the guide specifically states the value is the same with or without. I wonder if the grading companies used to let it slide and now don't?

On my ASM 238 label (slabbed by CBCS last year) it says "Tattooz insert missing. INCOMPLETE."

You also mentioned the lack of a Jewelry insert in the New Mutants issue. If you're talking about the Mark Jewelers insert, then those were only included in copies from military bases. The predominant number of copies (all directs and most newsstands) didn't have the MJ insert in the first place so you wouldn't take a hit for not having that.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@Slurpin - While not exactly what you are looking for, as @mafred_spain probably has a more direct reference, here a couple of what would otherwise be 9.6 - 9.8 Green Label cgc grades but CBCS takes a very harsh view of:

Not sure how yours would be viewed. If it is something that was loose, probably no grade impact. If it was something stapled in, big impact.

Maybe in the morning another forum member may have a more direct experience to relate.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I don't have my own copy, but a google image search turns up a ASM 238 missing the Tattooz that got a 5.0 from CBCS. I don't know what else is wrong with that particular book, but a 5 is certainly better than the <2 grade I thought it might get for being incomplete.
