A little disappointed in how much creators were charging for raw sigs. I mean I get it, they're probably hurting a little from covid too and they're putting themselves out there by going to the con...but when even lesser known artists are charing like 10 to 20 for a sig and then 20 to 30 on top of that for witnessed...Definitely didn't get as many books signed as I was hoping to. I'm all for supporting creators and I bought a few prints in combination with getting some sigs, but was hoping for a couple PC keys to get signed that I couldn't. Dollar bins did net me a good amount of new books so far though, and picked up a con exclusive stray dogs tpb for less than half of current ebay sold prices. Dropping off books tomorrow for grading since it was so nuts today. Ended up waiting in line to get in for a good hour and a half 🤣 |

@Nuffsaid111 by the time I got in(after about an hour and a half wait in line) they weren't even doing temp checks. Roughly 90 mins to get in the doors, another half hour to get vaccine check and get my wristband. At least I can get right in tomorrow I guess since that's all done with. Only want a couple more sigs on my asm 700 skyline, and then if I'm lucky hopefully get a sketch from forstner on my stray dogs 1 1st print. By the way, anyone happen to see how much forstner is charging for head sketches(without color)? Was also surprised at the line for Bachalo. Every time I went by there was at least 10 people in line - even Shooter didn't have a line anywhere near that lol. I do have to say it was worth it getting the sigs from Shooter - the dude likes to talk. He told us about how the death of Phoenix came about, and just hearing him talk about Claremont, Byrne etc like they were just all buddies around the office cooler deciding major events in Marvel history, was kinda awesome. The caliber of artists and writers involved in the process and the events that happened to lead to the decision to kill her off in the comics etc, kinda made me feel like a little kid. |

I'm all for safety but this is just knumbskull idiotic policy regardless if city of Baltimore or show organizers. Mindless overkill lunacy. One would think Vax evidence + mandatory masks + temp check evidence on day 1 would be sufficient. But no no no - it's not |

@Nuffsaid111 I can see that. Hoping to see an artist or writer, and not being at their table. I have experienced creatives do that from time to time. I don't know which is better, having a long line in front of them or not being there. Frank and Jim Shooter had long lines, so I will just talk to them another time. @drchaos I like that Frank stayed local and didn't move to LA or NYC. I remember him from University of Maryland in the 90s. It was fun watching him grow as an artist. His comic was originally University Square and then when he got syndicated, it was rebranded as Liberty Meadows. At the time, he partnered with a local comic book studio, Insight Studios Group, and then started coming into his own. A lot of artists were coming from the school newspaper, the Diamondback, like Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks), Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid; his comic back then was called Igdoof), and some others. I would like to say that something was in the water, but I think that it was the newspaper's print production schedule. The Diamondback came out roughly 250 times a year, so the student cartoonist was already used to a professional-level schedule if they made the deadlines. I looked at other school papers and most of them were monthly, so you get up to 12 times to showcase your work?! I don't know if the students today get that opportunity of a frequent deadline schedule, since the paper is fully online now. I bought this Bubblegum Crisis print by Frank Cho and colored by John Staton. ![]() |

Oddly enough every time I went by Jim Shooter he barely had a line. I did have to wait a bit to get my books signed but that was because of his storytelling(although I loved his stories...was well worth the wait). The only ones I saw with extremely long lines were bachalo/Townsend doing double signings because they were only signing for about an hour each day, and forstner probably because of all of the witnessed sketches being done(she posted on Facebook she overbooked commissions big time and got backed up quickly). |

@Sebastsk8 Yeah, Shooter was talking a lot, which is historically good for storytellers, starting with shamans telling tales from the campfire. Over time they get to refine their stories. Bachalo is interesting, since he is tied to the Sandman franchise. The second season audio book of Sandman came out last month. Maybe we might even get to see Death: The High Cost of Living on screen or in audio book form. Don't know much about Townsend, other than that he is affiliated with Spider-man books. Wanted to talk to Forstner, but, like you said, her line was backed up. I don't do too well in lines, so I hope to see her another time. |

@Sebastsk8 Garth Ennis had a huge line that I waited on Friday afternoon. Afterwards Christopher Priest had less people but the line took longer as there was a lot of talking with each person. Trish Forester had a long line because of the hot book (Stray Dogs) and because she was drawing a lot of remarks. Tom King also had a huge line as usual. Frank Cho had a huge line but I lucked out when he signed my books outside of his signing times. Jerry Ordway did not have the longest line but there always seemed to be 8-10 people waiting on him. Everyone else I saw had a pretty short wait. |

@drchaos Now that you mention it, Third Eye wasn't on the list this year. Could be hard staffing the event. I bought Sandman #1 from Midtown many years ago. I was late coming to the party, starting at issue #22 in the middle of the Seasons of the Mist story arc. That was the series that got me back into comics, so of course I had to get #1-21 ![]() On Sunday, I submitted my biggest order to-date, 75 comics. Now, the waiting game, lol... |
