I think all of those were on there earlier, although frank Miller is a new addition...surprised, he was like their top guest.

Convention season last year was completely non-existent.
This year it is existent, but abysmal from a guest perspective. Simply abysmal.

It was pretty cool seeing him in 2017. I had front row seats during a panel and was at his signing prior.

I'm fairly content with baltimore although I wish some of those hadn't cancelled...but still looking way better than nycc.

When one looks at the majority of those creator's ages it seems very reasonable that they would not attend a large indoor gathering.

Getting a bit frustrating.

Here is the updated cancellation list:

Klaus Janson Saturday only.
Joseph Michael Linsner
Howard Mackie
Frank Miller
Terry Moore
Richard Pace
Tom Palmer
Brandon Peterson
Louise Simonson
Walter Simonson
John K. Snyder III
Jill Thompson
Timothy Truman
Mark Waid

You could have a great comic show with just the guys on this list.

@drchaos

Why would guys like Frank Miller attend conventions? People/fans have gotten used to getting things through the mail over the last 19 months. I'd bet he'd make as much if not more money just doing signings through a grading company. Also, he doesn't have to deal with the general public and all the pitfalls that can bring. Unless he likes dealing with people there really isn't a reason to go.

@Towmater Right after he canceled cgc announced a private signing with him. He was a premiere guest at baltimore though with signings being very pricey so I'm sure he would have pulled in a lot there too.

Disappointed that about 8 of those I had planned to get sigs from, but my current list still includes about 15 people even without those so it's still well worth it.

At least now they have booth listings for all artists so hopefully they're fairly definite.

I had been waiting to get tickets just incase it turned into pretty much everyone I wanted sigs from being no shows, but looks like it'll still be a good show - their guest list before the cancelations was ridiculously good. Even with those that canceled they still have a much bigger and better list than nycc imo.

Has anyone decided not to attend due to the cancellations? I’m still going just to walk the floor not looking for any sigs so the cancellations aren't a big deal to me.

Also I just saw that Atreyu from The NeverEnding Story will be there that's cool.

@Towmater

Some people do not like to mail in their books and would prefer to see artists at shows.

By skipping shows you narrow your audience.

I am still going but the cancellations (especially the last minute nature of some of them) are a huge minus for the show.

@drchaos I agree I'm guessing attendance will suffer due to the cancellations I see that the Saturday admission ticket is still available to purchase I think the Saturday admission ticket for NYCC was sold out about 3 weeks before the show maybe even longer.

I understand your point. I enjoyed chatting with the creators that I have spoken with. That being said, the creators are getting older and if the are at a certain stature people will flock to send in their books if the opportunity arises. Todd McFarlane proves that 2 times a year. Miller is on the same level. Neither need to press the flesh any longer. I know that not many creator's are iconic like either of them.

I'll give you an example of something I witnessed happen to Mike Zeck at Heroes Con and why dealing with the public is something some of these older guys might not like doing in today's world. A guy was at the front of the line to meet Mike Zeck and have his books signed. The guy speaking with Mike clears out. The guy at the front of the line puts his books down in front of Mike and chats with him as Mike is signing his autographs. As the fan is about to leave, he sneezes into his hands and then puts one of the unclean hands out for Mike to shake. Mike pauses, looks up at the hand and its owner. The fan keeps his hand out. Mike, trying not to be rude, shakes the guy's wet hand. The guy grabs his books and walks off never noticing the look on Mike's face. Mike was offered a shot of hand sanitizer from a fan. He declined while reaching under his table. He pulled out his own and quickly layered hand sanitizer on both of his hands. You could tell he was troubled by what had happened. I was troubled just by witnessing it. There is no way I would have shaken that guy's hand.

Mike is very nice to chat with. Just don't come off as a fanboy if you do chat with him.

Obtaining signatures at shows is about 25% of my desire to see the artist / writer.
My biggest reason is always the possibility they bring original art with them for purchase.

I loathe purchasing from Art dealers or Art facilitators as they are .... nevermind.
I have purchased these directly from Mike Zeck and Jim Starlin over the years and although it is hit or miss, it is the ultimate hit when artists do bring originals with them.

Individual artists are (generally speaking) far more reasonable with pricing for their art than dealers/facilitators. Zeck and Starlin have been/are two that are very reasonable with their OA brings to conventions

I'm looking forward to that as well, and a sketch or two. Most of the sigs aren't as important to me except the secret wars 8 and marvel age 12 and the skyline covers I have.

Other than sigs, I'm psyched to have Trish forstner sketch my stray dogs 1 and getting a sketch from saviuk as well. And then there's always the dollar bins to rummage through 🤣
