I wanted to share this story, so I figured I would just make a thread of it for others to share theirs as well. In the last month my parked car was hit...twice. Not major stuff, but enough to include insurance. The first one had a guilty party to pay, the second one was anonymous and came from my policy with $1,000 deductible. Long story short, the car still runs ok and it's a Prius and I'm not exactly cruising chicks in it. So I left the dents in the car and got one of these:![]() |

@EbayMafia great story! I don't have anything to share but if you have decent photos of the damages and a copy of the estimates I can take a look at them to see if they missed anything or lowballed you. Maybe we can squeeze a few more comics out of them.

@EbayMafia I’d choose the book over fixing some dents, too, well done! As for me, best comic acquisition story I have is a guy I found online in Jasper, AB selling an X-Men 129. Took me two months of communicating and finally helping him set up a PayPal to get him paid, but I ended up buying the X-Men 129 along with 130, 134, 201, 207 and 244 along with Amazing Spider-Man 361-363 all for $255 (about $300 Canadian). So far I’ve had the X-Men 129 and Amazing Spider-Man 361 pressed and slabbed and they came back 7.0 and 9.4 respectively. Already sold the X-Men 129 for $385 and the X-Men 130 raw for $100, so that was pretty awesome for me. And now I’m using the funds to send more books in for grading. It’s a vicious cycle. ![]() |

While stationed in Key West in 1954 I read about this comic in the Sunday Miami paper...sent a note plus 15 cents to cover costs of book and postage...a couple of weeks later I received a copy in the mail. ![]() mm |

I found someone selling a Silver Age collection of several hundred books in the early days of Ebay. Paid about $500 for it and there are multiple books worth that or close to that by themselves.

If I remember correctly, I bought a comic off eBay. He turned out to have a bunch more. I bought them all. (It turned out they were the part of the Green River Pedigree collection that were taken as payment for legal services for the accused Green River killer.) |

Well this is an acquisition story but for someone else. (As I did the giving not the acquiring.) When I was 17 (in 1995) I saw on the Edmonton, Alberta news that a mentally handicapped guy had lost all of his comics in an apartment fire. His collection was his whole world and he had nothing left. So I phoned up the news station to ask if I could drop off some comics to help him get his collection back on track. I dropped off half my collection which at the time was an entire longbox. Didn't realize at the time the value some of those would have someday (one of the comics I donated was an Iron Fist 14). Well it actually made the local news and they put me on TV which was kinda cool (first and only time in my life) and let me give them to him in person. I am happy that I did it, even though I miss some of those issues now, as it was great to see the reaction on his face as I even had some of the same issues he had lost in the fire. I stopped collecting shortly after high school and just re-started about 6 months ago. Being in the military I haven't lived close to a comic shop in 25 years so it was hard to keep up with it. I occasionally look around on ebay now and then to see about picking up an Iron Fist 14 again but it's gone up so much now I don't think I'll be getting it. Feels good to be back in the hobby again though, I missed it. |

I don't know how good the story is, but in light of GPA's showing of a recent sale, it has a very hopeful if not happy ending. Around 9 years ago I claimed an AF15 CGC 0.5 (Universal, complete) on the CGC sales forum, choosing the seller's time payments option (and paying it off several months early ![]() Two months ago my eyes ![]() Now ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Insanity, but I ![]() ![]() |

When I was a kid I used to read all the new comics on the newsstand until I got yelled at. X-men 132 with Wolverine in the sewers made me come up with the money to buy 133. Every month I bought the next issue of the Dark Phoenix saga. I went to Max Seelys place where he used to sell mail order ads through marvel comics. Well he had issue 137 two weeks before the newsstand which I never knew was possible. I had to pay double cover(his mail order price) to get it!! Even though it wiped me out, greatest $1.50 I spent to read that double page book, I was stunned that they killed Jean Grey. That’s my best acquisition and I’ve had AF 15 and lots of other crazy books. I know not what you were expecting. |
