The comic age, not the song. But let's get the song out of the way ...

I wanted a thread about the modern age comics for some time now. I'm making this for everyone to share modern age comics (slabbed, raw, speculative, previews, etc), action figures, statues, toys, coffee mugs, etc. So basically, anything comic related from 1985 to now!!!

Why did I decide to start it now? I'm glad you asked. I was looking through the August previews on MCS and saw some books I wanted to share here. Basically, I only buy pre-ordered comics from MCS now. On a limited budget, I think I get the most bang for my buck that way. Anyways, here are the ones that really caught my eye for story and/or art. Of course, there are Halloween themed comics coming out!!!

With FCBD almost here there are some decent ones there too, I'd definitely pick up at least the house of Slaughter copy, I have I think 5 specifically that I definitely want, possibly one or two that I'd like multiples of...

I belong to a private store group on Facebook. Every year, the store owner sends out a FCBD bundle to people for free. Usually, I think he does 100 packages of 10-12 comics. This year, I thought I missed out, but he did a second round of 100 packages and I got my name in. It's a grab bag kind of event, but it's pretty cool he does it. I look forward to seeing what I get.

Transformers: King Grimlock #1 came out today. Added it to my pull list. The covers look really good. Synopsis-wise, it sounds vaguely reminiscent of the season three episode "Madman's Paradise" which had a very fantasy style story. Five part mini series and definitely looking forward to reading it. I might get the retailer incentive covers slabbed. The two I've seen are sharp.

TF: Shattered Glass is scheduled as well. Not sure when, but thinking late August. Basic story is a role reversal. Autobots bad, Decepticons good. Fun Publications used to publish SG stories for various TF conventions.

One of the first two comics I ever bought (jury’s out on which one actually came first). I still remember picking it up off a spin-rack at a gas station near my house at the time. Familiar with Venom from the Spider-Man animated series but not the 2099 universe, the cover looked awesome and I still love Jae Lee’s artwork to this day

I'm curious how the house of Slaughter fcbd issue will be classified...technically it's the first printed issue of that title.

Edit : I guess since it's titled enter the house of Slaughter it's slightly different. Interesting how they're doing some more fcbd issues that would be potentially a decent speculative book though, kind of like the fcbd issue of venom would have been the first appearance of virus last year if Corona hadn't messed up distribution

It'll probably be labeled a promotional issue. If there are any first appearances in it, it could take off. Here is the 2004 Star Wars fcbd from MCS.

Thanks for the info!

A first appearance would be great, and given being a promo for a new series could fuel hype for pre-orders for it(although I'm pretty sure they're already massive)

This one predates Bowie and I think it's better.

Back in 2016, DC did coloring book variants on a few of their titles. Since I have plenty of time to kill, I bought the Starfire one when I found out about them. I also have a Green Lantern one to do yet.

I wanted to do a blue on the lake, but grabbed the wrong pencil. I decided to go with it.

@Jesse_O very cool! I remember picking up a completely blank (inside and out) Wonder Woman issue they put out maybe around the same time. I had hoped to get it filled with sketches at a con but never got around to it.

@Jesse_O Similar to those, back in 1999/2000 Marvel released a set of Authentix books which showed the production process with the first portion of the issue in pencils, the next in inks, and the past in completed color. The covers similarly had artwork in either rough pencil or inks and were printed on a paper stock similar to a sketch cover.

I thought these were a great opportunity to get some colorist commissions

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

@dielinfinite those are pretty cool. I'll have to research them and see what I can find.

Overall, this was a good series!! Some issues were better than others, but they really all were good (for twisted and demented stories about clowns and one mime). Plus, I really like these covers!!

Fun Fact: If we consider Action Comics #1 the first Superhero comic and 1985 the start of modern comics, then nearly half of super hero comics’ history (41.5 years) is in the modern age (35 years)

One of the threads that finally got me to create this thread was the Batman cover art thread by @timberghost. So, I thought I'd showcase some DC art from the last two years or so. I pre-ordered all of these through MCS. The camera on my tablet is funky, so the colors might be off a bit. I'm going to split this into three posts with the comics in no certain order. It'll be Batman related, Sandman Universe and then the rest. So ... Batman related first.

And yes, the Joker should have been with the Batman related covers.

I love some of these newer venom covers, debating getting the venom 32 hotz virgin as well...found a 9.8 for about 55 bucks that's super tempting.

Missed out on this last night, saw it there earlier in the morning and didn't pull the trigger. Won't make that mistake again. Not a key or anything but a nice cover and 9.9...would have been a nice addition to the v4 run I'm putting together. Due to me being a tiny bit OCD I only buy 9.8s or higher for that 😂

When I saw that cover, I swore the artist had to be using a picture of one of my aunts from 1984!!! The retro vibe is strong in this one for me!! LOL

Haha. Maybe we all know someone who fits this profile! I would have been 4 at the time but I clearly remember my Mom thought she was going to go on tour with Billy Idol at any time back then haha.
