I would love to see Marvel release movies under their MAX title. Similar to how Deadpool was but allow characters not usually in that R-rated scenario to be badass and for adults.

Exclusive: Michael Keaton Solo Batman Project In Development
By FAITH MCKAY

DC just came off a big win with The Suicide Squad. The movie has great ratings and has fans even more excited to see what the studio is going to do for their next project. Those upcoming projects have been pretty big ideas, too, with a growing list of HBO Max developments and ever-bigger promises for movies like The Flash, where we’ll again be seeing Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman. After so many decades and many other Batmans in the intervening years, this came as a big surprise. An even bigger surprise has been that The Flash isn’t going to be his only new project in the role.

Giant Freakin Robot has now exclusively learned from one of our trusted and proven inside sources that Warner Bros is developing a solo Batman project for Michael Keaton. At this point, the solo project is in development, meaning it’s in the early stages and could still be a ways off yet. Knowing that it’s coming is a very big deal though since it’s been unclear for many just how central Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne is going to be in the DC Extended Universe moving forward.

In addition to this solo movie for Michael Keaton, we’ve also learned that the actor has a multi-picture deal with several appearances in his future. We were unable to learn where the solo Batman project will fall in his schedule. It seems most likely that we’ll be seeing movies like Batgirl on HBO Max first, especially since that project is expected to stream in 2022. He’s already filmed his part for The Flash, which is currently expected to release in theaters on November 4, 2022. By the time 2023 comes around, Michael Keaton’s Batman will firmly be established in the DC Extended Universe, making way for this new solo project with audiences, and hopefully setting up what we’ll be seeing in the solo movie.

With so many Batman appearances in his future, it isn’t going to take long for Michael Keaton to get very sick of being asked in interviews about what it means to be playing an older Bruce Wayne. It’s an obvious curiosity at this point, and while that’s going to certainly irritate the 70-year-old actor, it’s also one of the more interesting aspects of all these Batman movies he’s working on.

Audiences have seen so many superhero movies by now, and a lot of Batmans have been among them. Most often, that character is shown on-screen as just starting out his career as the Dark Knight. With Michael Keaton taking up the role again, we’re going to get to see what Batman is doing with his life in his 70s. While we were unable to learn the story of the solo project, it’s likely going to include a closer look at how a 70-year-old Bruce Wayne is protecting Gotham, likely with some new strategies in place, an updated Batmobile, and probably some aches and pains that weren’t there in 1989.

Knowing that the solo Michael Keaton movie is coming makes his appearance in The Flash all the more exciting since it’s going to be setting up all the Batman appearances for the actor to come. It’s going to be interesting to see how his Bruce Wayne develops over these projects, and what story they’ll decide to tell for the solo movie to come.

This looks fun Maybe they moved back the release date due to a delay in filming because of what has been going on in the world?

Yeah, I’m thinking they pushed the release to next year in hopes that people will possibly be more comfortable going to the theater by then?

It’s just that, historically, a January release implied a lack of faith in the project from the studio. But with this franchise, I doubt that’s what they’re saying.

Rob Zombie Shares First Look at The Munsters Cast

Rocker and filmmaker Rob Zombie took to Instagram this morning to share a first look at the cast of The Munsters. In the reboot film, Zombie will direct his wife, Sherri Moon Zombie, along with frequent collaborators Jeff Daniel Phillips and Daniel Roebuck. The trio are here in the first shot, as Lilly Munster, Herman Munster, and "The Count" (seemingly an updated take on Grandpa Munster). The roles were originated in a 1960s TV series by Yvonne De Carlo, Fred Gwynne, and Al Lewis, with Butch Patrick and (depending on the season) Pat Priest or Beverley Owen as Eddie and Marilyn Munster.

The original The Munsters series ran from 1964-1966. From 1988 until 1991, it was followed up by The Munsters Today, and in 2012, Pushing Daisies and Hannibal producer Bryan Fuller tried to relaunch it again as Mockingbird Lane. The pilot wasn't picked up by NBC, but given the popularity of the Munsters brand and some of the actors involved, they opted to run it as a Halloween special and frame it as a one-off TV movie instead.

You can see the photo below.

Zombie's take on The Munsters is the first full length feature adaptation of the property, which achieved higher first-run ratings than the similarly-themed The Addams Family, but ultimately did not find the same level of post-broadcast success that Addams did. A second animated The Addams Family -- the brand's fourth theatrical film and fifth feature overall (there was a TV movie called Addams Family Reunion in 1998). The Munsters centers on a family of good-natured monsters who move to an ordinary neighborhood and comically struggle to coexist with everyday humans. The series has had a life that has long outlasted its original broadcast, since it became a fan-favorite in syndication in the '80s and continues to be broadcast to this day.

Zombie's history of making movies that are hard-R, deeply disturbing horror movies centering on violent rednecks makes him a curious choice for what appears to be a fairly faithful retelling of The Munsters so far. Some fans have worried that he will make it the "Rob Zombie version" of The Munsters, as he did with Halloween, but at face value, the images released so far suggest he plans on playing it fairly straight.

The Munsters is likely to be released in theaters and on Peacock next year. There is no clear release date yet.

Marvel Delays Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, and More

On Monday, Walt Disney Studios announced a shakeup to its upcoming film release schedule. The moves included several forthcoming Marvel Studios releases for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The films affected stretch into 2023, include Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. One of Marvel's upcoming untitled movies got bumped up by a week while two others, including one suspected of being Blade, were removed entirely from the schedule. The delays also affected Disney's upcoming Indiana Jones sequel. The studio also erased a live-action Disney movie and a 20th Century Studios project from the slate.

Disney revealed the changes in a press release. The complete list of Marvel Studios moves is below:

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS (Disney) previously dated on 3/25/22 moves to 5/6/22
THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER (Disney) previously dated on 5/6/22 moves to 7/8/22
BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER (Disney) previously dated on 7/8/22 moves to 11/11/22
THE MARVELS (Disney) previously dated on 11/11/22 moves to 2/17/23
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA (Disney) previously dated on 2/17/23 moves to 7/28/23
UNTITLED MARVEL (Disney) previously dated on 7/28/23 is removed from schedule
UNTITLED MARVEL (Disney) previously dated on 10/6/23 is removed from schedule
UNTITLED MARVEL (Disney) previously dated on 11/10/23 moves to 11/3/23

These changes mean there will now be three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies released in 2022 instead of four. It also means there will now be a five-month span between 2021's final MCU release, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the next theatrical installment of the franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, like in 2021, there will probably be Disney+ shows to fill the void.

The final remaining Marvel Studios releases for 2021 remain unmoved this time around. After suffering delays previously due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Eternals opens on November 5th. Spider-Man: No Way Home also remains on track for its December release.

What do you think of Disney rearranging the Phase 4 release date for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What do you think the lone remaining untitled Marvel movie on the schedule is going to be? Let us know how you feel about it in the comments section.

Brendan Fraser Cast As DC Villain In Major Movie

Can the same guy who’s already playing a DC hero play a DC villain? Apparently, if you’re Brendan Fraser you can. News broke today that the same actor who plays Robotman on HBO Max’s Doom Patrol will also play a supervillain in the upcoming movie Batgirl.

The report comes from Deadline, who says that along with joining the cast of Batgirl with Leslie Grace — who plays the eponymous hero — Brendan Fraser is expected to be playing one of the few signature Batman-mythos villains to not yet show up as an antagonist in a live-action film: Firefly. While there have a been a couple of different versions of the character, the one known the best is Garfield Lynne who first appears in 1952’s Detective Comics #184. Firefly is an arsonist who usually uses a flamethrower, a jet pack, and fire proof armor. Anyone who’s played the popular 2015 game Batman: Arkham Knight will likely remember side missions in which Batman chases the airborne arsonist all over Gotham City. Firefly’s been widely believed to be the Batgirl villain since July, when rumors emerged that the filmmakers were looking for a man in his 50s or 60s to play a “disgruntled former firefighter.”

The addition of Brendan Fraser isn’t the only Batgirl casting news to emerge recently. Just last week Deadline reported Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life) was added to the cast in an undisclosed role opposite Leslie Grace. Back in July, word came from The Hollywood Reporter that J.K. Simmons was in talks to reprise the iconic role of Gotham City’s Police Commissioner James Gordon. Simmons previously played the part in 2017’s Justice League.

Many have referred to Brendan Fraser’s “comeback” or “revival” to Hollywood, but really it’s much more. The actor’s return to the spotlight has seen him in the kinds of roles he rarely had in his heyday of blockbusters like The Mummy. Along with his turn as the foul-mouthed and tortured Robotman on Doom Patrol, this year has seen Fraser playing hard against type as a crook in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move, and buzz is building for his appearance in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. He’ll also be starring alongside Hollywood giants like Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

In a powerful 2018 interview with GQ, Brendan Fraser opened up about the incident that was the beginning of the end of his career’s ascendance. While the event had already been reported by other sources, it was the first time Fraser had spoken it about it himself. Fraser alleged he was sexually assaulted by former Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) President Philip Berk during a luncheon in the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was so traumatic, Fraser said it forced him into depression and seclusion in 2003. He also suggested the HFPA may have actively worked against his career after that, saying he was never invited to the Golden Globes again after reporting the incident. Berk called Fraser’s version of the events a “fabrication,” and said the HFPA had nothing to do with his career’s decline.

Batgirl does not yet have a release date, though we know it will release on HBO Max. The film will star Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, and J.K. Simmons. The film will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life), and written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee).
