What do you guys think is going on with these two copies of #281? The one looks sun faded but not on all of the colors and it is a little shorter?

I'm not sure exactly what an Ash Can edition is, but apparently both of these qualify. Although they look very different to me.

From my understanding they are small preliminary comics used to promote the actual comic. I have a hulk book that came with ash can copy and cbcs graded it no problem

Edit see ebay link below. Not mine

Thanks @Bronte. The first one is obvious and it's signed and numbered. The second one appears to be no different than any other copy. MCS called it an Ashcan and it's supposed to be signed and numbered but I can't find any of that. Obviously it's regular size as well. Maybe a mix up in the bagging.

It used to be that the term "ash can" referred to cheaply made, low print run issues, usually from the Golden Age of comics, that were produced in order to secure the copyright on a particular character or title. Often times the contents would contain reprinted material.

Here's a link to a site that tells a little about one particular ash can...

https://www.comics.org/series/11514/

Later on, mostly in the late 80s or 90s, the term "ash can" began to be used to refer to many (relatively) low printed comics often given away with magazines like Wizard. These were never intended to secure any copyright. They were intended to increase sales of the magazine.

oh no...don't make me dig for mine.

pretty sure the ashcans are all smaller and are signed and numbered - so I think issue 25 is just a normal issue....mine are a matching set of I think 3 that I got when they were released (along with some signed trading cards)

Here are two more key additions to my ASM collection from a trade with @DweeB1967 (thanks David). The mail is getting seasonally wonky already, as the package took 8 days (instead of 2 or 3) to arrive by Priority Mail. Thanks to a great packaging job, the books/slabs were fine.
