Horrible books that hit my pressing desk...15370

Little story here. I accidentally shipped the wrong slab to someone, and they returned it. It was a 9.6 (CGC) and this is how it was returned:

From what I could tell, as bad as it looked there was no color breaks…so I took the chance and had it sent in to cbcs for a crack, press and regrade. Here was the result:

@SteveRicketts Was this you? If not, thank the fellow you likely trained. Bravo!

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
@Drogio how in the world did that happen inside a slab?

More than likely the book was dropped or had a heavy impact during shipping that caused it to jam into the inner well.

Yes. Case had impact damage as well. It was packed poorly and evidence the priority Mail box was dropped on its end. USPS would not reimburse me unless I gave it up to them (and it would be sent to a landfill). Took a chance.

I just imagined such a thing would end up causing different damage. Great work by the presser regardless!

It was not me. When my guys run into something unusual or more complicated than they can do, they bring the book to me. To be quite honest, I've never seen your book, so I asked and it was one of our guys. They're a chip off the old block, I suppose. I'm actually impressed by that one. lol

Canto #1 is one of those problem books. I think every single copy has bends off the spine on the front cover, but this one took the cake. I don't know the story, but wouldn't be surprised if someone used it to soak up a spilled glass of water.

Here's the before...

Me, too. This had become one of my favorite threads. I know he's super busy, though.

The 'Nam was suffering from too much time in the swamp. No idea who thought it was a good idea to soak up a spill with their comic book.

This comic was stored laying on something. Whatever it was left an imprint in the cover.

After a press, it was ready for a night on the town...

Last one for the night. This one had almost a hard crease along the spine that ran the full length of the book.

Luckily it didn't break color and turned out quite nicely.

That was probably moisture from Neal's sweaty hands as he signed the book.
