Horrible books that hit my pressing desk...15370

CBCS Pressing SteveRicketts private msg quote post Address this user
I thought I'd expand on Borock's ongoing thread with a thread of my own. From time to time I'll show examples of books on my own desk, some of which will be more horrible than others, and I'll complete it with follow up photos of them when they are LEAVING my desk.

Thanks go out to B-Rock for the inspiration.

Let the games...BEGIN!

I'll kick it off with this Journey Into Mystery 83 that has seen better days. The main issue is an ugly spine roll. It just needs a little love to make it look a few years younger.

Here it is when it left my desk. It got a little detail and a new set of tires to breathe some life back into it. I think it turned out nicely. The bonus on this book was that the dark stain on the top left of the book ended up directly on the spine. That had no effect on the grade, but it sure made it look nicer.

Here's a book that had some serious moisture rippling. Only one photo, so I'll put the before and after in the same post.

Amazing! @SteveRicketts If you ever find the before pic of my hockey stick Marvel Fanfare #1 in your archives from early 2019, I will supply the after pic.

🥂 and thanks again.

I may have one of yours, but I'd have to through a lot of old pictures to find it. I also have before and afters of another hockey stick that might have been worse than yours. It was literally 90°. 😆

so does spine roll fixing help the grade?

I had a 4.0 with terrible spine roll. I had it pressed out - looks great - came back 4.0.

I'm sure there are situations where it may not improve the actual grade. It's not an automatic grade bump in lower grades, but it does make books present better.

one more for today.

Spidey 129 that has seen better days. Mainly dirty, a small spine roll, and a lot of surface denting.

Small spine roll and bends were the major problem with this book...
