Dreadstar Returns - Jim Starlin kickstarter - Results15308

I originally heard about this kickstarter project from a post on these forums. It was for a new Dreadstar graphic novel by Jim Starlin. I was and am a big Jim Starlin fan as well as a fan of Dreadstar. Still have the entire comic run. So I was happy to contribute to this and looked forward to seeing more Dreadstar from one of my favorite comic creators.

I'll post photos of the graphic novel and other items I received, but wanted to give some commentary on the good and bad of the experience.

The Good:
The graphic novel arrived yesterday and I quickly thumbed through it. The quality of the art and of the book itself looks good. Anything else I bought and received were a bonus and I am happy to have them. I look forward to reading it and will report on it after I have done so.

The Bad:
The project funding was back in April/May 2020, so it has been well over a year since the initial contributing to the project. I honestly don't recall ever contributing to any other projects, so I don't have a good frame of reference, but over a year seems a long time. Especially since the initial descriptions gave an estimated delivery date of October 2020.

I mostly forgot about this, and would only remember when they sent out an e-mail update on the progress. It was nice to get these at first, but they began to sound less like explanations and more like excuses. They always were giving a reason why the project was behind.

(Now I do want to acknowledge that this was being done in the middle of a pendemic, so I will give them some portion of a pass.)

One of the updates was in response to fans seeing Jim Starlin selling the graphic novel at a convention (sometime in June?) while none of the backers had received their copies yet. Hey, he's the creator, so I didn't have a problem with it. But an update two weeks later was in response to backers seeing the graphic novel available on Amazon. WTF? The update blamed it on a new employee that saw the Amazon order and filled it first. Not really buying that one.

I am curious the experience of others who have backed more projects. But now on to the pictures!

More prints.

Nice sticker on the outside of the delivery box. Plan to remove it without destroying it, or cut the end of the box off.

Neat. How much of a contribution did you make? The only stuff I have backed never hit complete funding so I have no experience to share.

Bloodbourne the board game almost 2 years due to china (where it was produced) being shut down and then waiting for them to gear up again. Mars attacks uprising 9 months (original March 2021 which was a new fulfillment date) again due to the pandemic. but great game and faith that this new card set and perks will be just as great as the occupation one was

@Briten It's been over a year, but from memory I paid $50. That was for the graphic novel, T-shirt and blank cover. The other stuff was extras they gave based upon hitting funding goals.

All my Dreadstar prints were damaged.
I'm done with Kickstarters as I get aggravated with shipping every single damn time.

(Yes I can and do get replacements, but I'm kinda tired of it being part 2 of every kickstarter I back..... the return part)

Jim Starlin was at TerrifiCon (Uncasville CT) this weekend and he was selling the book at his table - I purchased a copy.
