Not exploiting people I can buy, if the only reason to have a black Clark Kent is to get the black people to pay for your movie that's pretty low. But faithfulness I'm not buying. These are comic book characters. Aside from basically their race, EVERYTHING changes about them over the years. From powers, to attitudes, to partners, to names. To me the idea of being "faithful" to a comic book character is akin to the idea of being faithful to what color a chameleon is at any given point. |

I'm still waiting for actors who can be faithful to Sam Keith's artwork. I hope the next guy they hire to play Wolverine looks like a triangle.

What was the name of that shit artist from the 90's Marvel books, couldn't draw legs or feet to save his life, always made people look hairy and steroidal .. my GOD did he suck. I think he did Cable a lot ... X-Force maybe .. man he KILLED certain titles for me. I literally stopped buying anything with that talentless jack-wagon's touch to it. |

THANK YOU! LOL! Well I won't waste the neurotransmitters to remember his name, but I applaud your recall. I'm sure it's locked in your axions and dendrites due to his place firmly lodged in the putrid and putrescent BOWELS of comic art infamy. I cannot fathom how he ever, ever got a job except for the fact that those were turbulent days for the comic industry and maybe they just were throwing money at anyone that could manage better than a stick figure. I weep for the scores of talented artists that he overshadowed and denied exposure by his employ. I'd rather see the entire X-Men franchise drawn by the guy that did Ziggy. That guy was like stink on a monkey. Now to go re-watch Deadpool 2 and LAUGH. |

You have to give Liefeld credit, no man ever made it so far and gained so much from so little talent

I thought Liefeld's art was fantastic, especially after the abysmal way that Bill Sienkiewicz drew the title.

I guess the traditionalist either conveniently forget or secretly dislike the fact that Superman flies. I’m sure they all get bunched up over him flying since he only jumped 1/8 of a mile in the beginning and transitioned to flying in Action Comics #65. What must add insult to their injury is that the comic creators changed his “status” due to the way he was presented in the Fleischer films/cartoons. While I don’t like what Synder did in his movies with Clark, I guess I have to “respect” the attempt at bringing the character into our current world. Too bad he couldn’t figure out that Clark, like Steve Rodgers, should be depicted as the best of humanity. Marvel and Disney understood that and audiences went along for the ride. |

I'm not a Liefeld fan but the guy was hugely popular and created Deadpool....the guy deserves some respect for that.

Quote:Originally Posted by GAC Unsure being hugely popular is the main qualification for respect, but I can work with that... As far as creating Deadpool, thats a little bit of a different idea for me at least....he took Deathstroke, gave him a different costume, and voila....I mean...cmon, Slade Wilson, Wade Wilson? Even Stan Lee told him at the time, all that is, is Deathstroke in a different outfit. So then Liefeld left Marvel and the character for years...along come multiple other writers, and artists that flesh out Deadpool and give him some of his famous draws, and chops ...and back comes Liefeld telling everyone how things should and should not be done. Along with that come his notorious temper tantrums, drama fits, and refusals to sign this book, but not that one and yada yada. I can give you he deserves some credit for his work and so on...but when people say he created Deadpool I kinda cringe , sorry. No disrespect intended GAC and I am sure you have reasons for what you think yourself. |

@Darkseid_of_town I consider DC to be the Led Zeppelin of comic publishers - lots of “influences” with some direct rip-offs of other cultural figures BUT being original in application and context. Marvel is like the Wolfmother or - probably more apt - the Greta Van Fleet of comics. Some of my favorite characters are Marvel (Punisher) but Deadpool is not even the most obvious rip off (and wow is it obvious!) |

@Davethebrave At least Liefeld didn’t copy the bizarre, sick, and inappropriate relationship that Slade had with Terra when he spun Wade into the Marvel universe.

Now that you guys mention it, I think there was a post with a pharmaceutical reference. I have done that before, had the post removed, and simply been messaged not to do it. No suspension. I wasn't aware at the time that it was against the rules.

But I think from the publisher/studio's point of view the safe money would be to rebrand an existing character that has a large loyal base that is guaranteed to show up. Building a new character from scratch can take decades before it reaches screen-level fan support. And there's no guarantee that it will. |

@Bronte I was thinking about things that are subjective...like art. Racism is not subjective or opinion based in my opinion. 1 + 1 = 2. if one's "opinion" is that its 3...that not an opinion. |
