Anyone care to compare their slabbing quantity this year vs 2020 or 2019?15236

Quantity wise, what do your submissions look like this year vs 2020 or 2019? There's a big surge going on, and I'm guessing that many of us are playing our part in it. I heard slabbing services were going to become more rare than toilet paper so I sent a bunch of books in April and May. I'll try to add up the numbers by year when I get a chance.

152 this year, but I am done. The turn around has been horrid. I will wait on sending anything else in until things improve.

I did about half that last year.

All of my submissions have been through CBCS

July 2018: 7/10 slabbed after pre-screen - 1st time submitting to a grading company
December 2019: 18/23 slabbed after pre-screen
March 2020: 9 book submission through a 3rd party presser
July 2020: 85/113 book submission pre-screen (I still own most of these, not the best investment decision, at least not short-term)
November 2020: 12 book submission through a 3rd party presser
July 2021: 80 book submission 9.8 pre-screen

Thinking about how many slabs I've purchased in addition to these is a bit terrifying. I don't even want to know that number.

This is pretty similar with my situation and thoughts. Probably 200 books this year, less than 100 last year. Right now I will only be sending in stuff that is valuable enough to pay for fast track.

Last year was the first time I submitted and it took almost a year for me to get my books back. Due to the cost of grading I am holding off submitting until I have a good chunk of change. My next order will probably be even more expensive.

@KatKomics Is that because you plan to use the more premium priced faster services? I feel like the prices on regular submissions are fair enough that a 5% or 10% discount won't change my motivation level. A small discount may have motivated me at 6 week TAT's. But now at 18 weeks that little bit of savings has become kind of irrelevant to me. I just want them to move faster!

I am such an amateur!! I just sent my 1st 2 for slabbing ever and that's about all I could afford! Still waiting to get them back....I'd love a 9.8 on my first try! It's exciting and nerve racking waiting on my first submission! Lol

Once you start you will want all your comic books slabbed. I know I do.

@Cody That's a great group of books. That was a lot of value to have sitting around unslabbed.

I submitted just 14 books in 2019

209 books in 2020

311 books so far in 2021 with another 100+ bundle just being added to the system.

It's no wonder that turnaround times are slowing down as everyone ramps up their grading requirements and people migrate from the dark side. I'm only submitting fairly smalls subs for a dealer so I can only imaging the size of some of the bundles being submitted!

2021 sent in 29 books to be slabbed of which only 20 assed the grade prescreen. 2020 I sent 0 books to be slabbed. In 2019 I sent 5 books to be slabbed for a signing plus 12 additional for a blue label.

2019 - 0
2020 - 25
2021 - 125 (but I'm done for now)

Some years I submit none. One year I subbed 800. Just depends on how busy I am elsewhere and what comics I acquire. I began the year by picking up a 1000+ book silver age collection which has kept me busy. Mostly mid to low grade, but most of this year's subs have been from that lot.

sadly no...it's because I'm a cheap SOB!!

The best time to slab (if you plan on selling) is before the book hits yes?
Most of what I want to slab are for my PC with doubles going for sale. The ones for sale are not really 'hot' books but will hold their value - maybe grade and see if something happens to make them spike! like Swamp Thing 37x2, Aplha Flight 1x3(or4?), Heir to the Empire 1x3(need to get this graded before season 2 of Madalorian??) - just other random stuff...with 9k books there is much, much more I want to get rid of than keep!

Was actually just telling my son last night that I've never bought/had a new bike! always from yard sales or put together from pieces I scavenged/saved from the trash or even police auctions!

being a cheap SOB just comes naturally!!!

2020 was the first time I submitted any books for grading. I sent in 2, one for CGC and one for CBCS to try out both companies. This year I've submitted 44 books so far between both companies again.

Can't believe it. Just counted them. About 200 this year of which 150 are still not done. Getting another 40 ready. last year about 25. I'm not a dealer so time doesn't matter too much but it's still frustrating to have to wait so long. As soon as I get them they're off to CL or MCS. Moved about 50. They pay for the next subs.

I'm too poor right now! Maybe if I sell some of my books that aren't as special! Still trying to figure out the best way to do that to make a profit!

According to my order history page:
18 at the very end of 2016, which was my first order.
25 in 2017
34 in 2018
94 in 2019
39 so far in 2020.

I highly doubt I'll get into the 90s again. I don't know how I managed that.

93 to CBCS in 2020.
38 to CBCS in 2021 so far. 10 to CGC. I didn't count the reholders that were sent to both.

I'm sure I'll send more down. Going with CFP Pancakes to keep the batter costs down a bit. I was sending everything to CBCS Pancakes. I tend to just fire and forget when I send orders down.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
2021 = 1,196
2020 = 100
2019 = 2,900

2019 were predominantly my original owner purchases from the late 70's to the mid 90's
2020 were predominantly CBCS re-holders and cgc crack to CBCS
2021 are some miscellaneous that I had not previously submitted in 2019 along with fill ins to complete runs.

To date I have upgraded about 100 cgc slabs to CBCS Encasements. Those that I haven't upgraded I am just not confident that the cgc grade would hold.

Sort of, and it makes '2019' make much more sense. 2019 was actually 35 books, 2020 the other 59 I put under 2019, and 39 so far in 2021. To be fair to myself, I've been continually having a hard time realizing that 2020 happened and is over.
