Is the TVA really just Quantum Leap??15192

past performance is no guarantee of future actions. KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
No,no...hear me out....

Now it's been a while since I watched Quantum Leap..but....they have a gadget that takes you through a doorway to different places and times where Sam (was it Sam??) - so Sam essentially corrects the timeline he's in by "Enchanting" the body of the person/variant.

So did the TVA start as Quantum Leap but morphed into ...nahh...why try to correct...lets just erase everyone involved??!!!

Pretty sure it is.......

How do we get Scott Bakula into season 2 of Loki...we can make it happen people!!!

As someone who watched Quantum Leap, the idea has some merit for sure. As for "He who remains"...was that Brother Voodoo?

The actor who played him has been advertised as playing Kang in the next Ant-Man movie, so it would be quite a thing if that wasn't the character.

I will say Quantum Leap is leaps and bounds more interesting than Loki.

Wife and I both agree that our interest has been falling steadily with each episode. We rarely drop from a streaming show once we are past a few episodes but I think this will be the exception. I just don’t get the interest - mediocre-to-poor acting, inconsistent character portrayals, convoluted plot… feels like Infinity War all over again.

Tom Hiddleston remains great as Loki, probably enough to watch season 2 even though I feel like the TVA is a totally dystopian Dr. Who knock-off from earlier seasons of that series. It left me disinterested in the set-up for the second season. The Loki FX are great, but seem to be used too much as compensation for a weak story. Even though there's good chemistry between Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie the plot seems painfully forced and drawn out.

I also see the TVA/Quantum Leap connection, but that series had great episodes within a strong multi-season story-arc. Loki has meandering episodes in a weak story arc with characters who can't seem to make up their minds about anything.

Dr. Who knock-off for sure. Tom’s acting chops are up-to-snuff and I think Sophia plays a solid Loki variant but lots of quality inconsistencies beyond that.

But for me it is the story and character consistency. Characters can change and of course what is “revealed” to the audience is not always where the character is indeed “at” either, especially a character like Loki… but the journey matters too.

That character journey just feels off here. Similar though different with the character journey of Thor in the MCU and a few others.

Whatever the reason, those journeys felt contrived and “false” and I feel the MCU is diluting its characters and stories instead of reinvigorating them. Too many predictable characterization adjustments that feel trendy.

The amazing thing about comics and their characters are how they can both relate to our times and often hold us to something higher too. But there is (to me) an anchoring point in the characters. When a character starts to push beyond its range then it feels like a corporate marketing exercise.

It clearly works and I am clearly in the minority because the reviews for Loki are strong and viewership high. Then again, pop music also sells… and I won’t be trading in my Tool albums* for <insert pop superstar of the month here> any time soon.
