And so it begins...the MCS Prime Auction July 5-July 1215114

Anyone else digging into the listings in the MCS Prime auction? I've been pretty good about selling more than I buy the last few weeks, but there are some Golden Age books in that auction that I definitely have on my watch list.

@Batman66 The MCS weekly auction, I think it's once every 3-4 months they do it as a "Prime" auction which will be a selection of more premium, higher priced items.

It's tempting but I've chosen not to buy any more comics this year, other than a small monthly amount on new comic pre-orders...we'll see if I can even make it to the end of the prime auction.

I've put a few bids but low balling.not much for me this time that I think is reasonable.

We are all Kosh.

I will be bidding on some holes and upgrades. And, I have 22 comics in this auction up for bid.

I usually keep my eye on MCS and try and focus on non-auctions, non-consignments mainly.

I am focused on only a small number of titles to add and unfortunately no luck.

If you’re a member, is that the only qualification in order to put a book up for auction?

@WndrWmn74 that's about the only 'qualification', but there's a process to get a book into the auction. They have some description at https://www.mycomicshop.com/webuycomics/consignmentterms and https://www.mycomicshop.com/webuycomics/howtoconsign

So I think I need to stop my strategy with MCS auctions of just putting in my max bid first thing off the bat as now the couple of books I wanted are hopelessly out of my league (or what i'm willing to actually spend on them)

See xkonk's response but I have a single book that made it in this auction and it was surprisingly easy process. I was able to send in a few consignment items also with some back issue trade ins for store credit and the thought of not having to deal with eBay and packing the slab up makes it more than worth it.

My bidding strategy has been the following. I bid on things I'd like to have but don't really fit in to what I collect. Then, I get nervous that I might actually win. Next, I'm relived that I was outbid. Finally, when the auction is over, I'm disappointed that I didn't win it.

I have one book in this auction. It's not going to go for much, in fact I'd venture to say I might lose money on it. But it's the first slab I've put in to auction (all others I auctioned were raw) so I wanted to try one. I had heard that slabs don't do well in the MCS auctions and you're better off doing them with a fixed price/best offer. But, like most things, I have to see for myself.

I'm hoping to not lose any money this auction and I'd be happy breaking even. Here's my listings..nothing I expect anyone here to be interested in:

@xvipah what book do you have listed? Might as well put the link here, I don't think it'd be considered thread hijacking, but if so I apologize.

It has a "5 stages of grief" ring to it. The 5 stages of auction bidding.

The fifth stage is then convincing myself that I didn't need it any way.

I've never complained about anyone hijacking a thread. At least not after the first day or two. If threads don't get hijacked they mostly die anyway.

My auction strategy is simple - avoid auctions when at all possible but keep an eye on possible strategic errors by sellers.

What I mean is to me auctions are great for hot items (seller perspective). Psych of auction atmosphere plus hot item = fomo based decisions.

For colder or less hyped things (call it classics vs “trendy”) auctions can be dangerous (for seller) excepting very high end, ultra low supply items.

So I usually look for less trendy items posted to auction just in case but dont participate too often.

I don’t often participate in auctions but when I do I prefer dos eq… sorry… I prefer to bid as late as possible and just set the amount to what I am willing to pay, period. I lose 95% of the auctions I enter, sometimes by small amounts. When the amount I lose by is reallly small I admit it can be a bit painful.
