I can't find any information on getting rid of non-color breaking Spine creases. I know the pros can do it. I contacted CFP, but he didn't want to give away trade secrets. I recently bought a Seal 160M that is working really great for creases that aren't on the spine. If anyone remembers the Aspen Batman #1 I got that was folded in half by USPS, I was able to remove the creases from those books. I just have some books I would like to get the spine creases removed. I haven't tried moisture yet. I've been avoiding that scenario, but that's the only thing left I can think of. Anyone have suggestions? |

I would like to know what you have been doing to make your books look better, cleaning, pressing? What and how stuff.

I'm not doing any cleaning. I'll leave that to the pros. I use a seal 160M to press the books. I preheat to 150, place the book in the press, close it, and shut off the heat and leave it for 24 hrs. For the press, I place 3 magazine size backing boards on the press mat, place a backing board in the middle of the comic, put the comic on top of the backing boards, finally put a sheet of silicone parchment paper on top of the comic. This takes out most creases. For difficult ones like my Aspen batman #1, I put a backing board between the cover and first/last page. |

I was wondering if the backing board between the cover and first/last page adds a seem crease and how do you avoid it?

Understanding wood/paper mechanics is key.Intil you grasp the concept of paper memory, you won't make any progress. Look at the books that you have already pressed, in a couple of months from now.I can guarantee you that they will have reverted to their pre-pressed state. |

I am actually surprised how much packing books tightly in a long box presses stuff out. I had a book I received just beat to hell with cover indentions and they all pressed out, much to my surprise, after a couple of weeks storage.

First off some spine stresses are never going to go way. It really just depends on how damaged the fibers are. You could bring moisture into the picture and you will likely see better results. Best advice is do research and try different things until you get what works for you. Don't expect the guys making money from their services to tell their trade secrets. And one thing do the test stuff on crappy stuff don't ruin anything good. Good luck

Again, the info posted on the internet ( youtube vids etc) is rife with faulty advice. You cannot learn proper technique from watching youtube videos....dry cleaning and pressing is a trade skill that is learned by experience. |

CAK, just posted a new pressing vid on this Forum's video gallery & YouTube. While there are many ways to press a book, suggest this approach is less error-prone than others, and highly instructive. |
