What is happening to Batman Family 6? My MCS auction is a run away!!14884

Collector KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
So I have 3 of these and had 2 for sale on MCS.

My 8.5 sold as BIN for $85 in March and that was FMV - I was happy.

My 7.0 is ending tonight currently at $255

$255 for a $70 book - what the heck is going on??

Keeping my 9.2

@KatKomics - I think you really need another copy, Josh. How about a 9.6?

Don't think I can afford any more copies if these are the prices they are going for!!!

Completed my Batman Family run earlier this year - glad I did!

Sad thing is I've had this up for 5 months at BIN for $70 and no offers - now some poor soul is going to waaaaay overpay. I mean, good for me, but horrible for them especially when I would have been happy at $70.

p.s....these square bound books are a killer...stop tempting me with 9.6!!

Speaking of subtle persuasion, I just bought the raw copies on MCS. Based on your auction price they were about a 60% discount.

Weird, there's more than a few slabbed copies available at 9.0 or above for less than $200. Maybe the winning bidder won't end up paying.

cool, there was a 9.2 in that collection I just picked up. That deal just keeps getting better, lol

@EbayMafia I thought you got a hold of that after all those Shotgun purchases. Maybe you should buy all the slabs to cut your losses:

@flanders Nope, my most easily accessible boxes are basically an archive representing all of the collective wisdom of this forum. It's like a museum of CBCS buying recommendations.

crazy!! even on ebay there are 9.4's at $200 and $275...maybe I should use this $$ to buy a 9.4 then sell my 9.2!!

I won't though...happy enough with my 9.2

If the winning bidder does not pay, I would suggest that MCS needs to ban both the winning bidder and the second place bidder. If it is some kind of pump and dump scam, there are 2 accounts involved.

I don't know....it says MCS shipped the book - they must have paid!!

I'll wait for MCS to cut the cheque before I spend the money...already have my eyes on something nice!

I really wish there was an explanation. I don't know if we are the clueless outsiders...or if the buyer is clueless outsider. MCS auctions don't typically attract dumb money. Just being on MCS alone is kind of a filter that indicates a buyer knows a bit about the industry.

@EbayMafia what about when an X-Men #1 9.8 (1991 Series) was going for something crazy like $500!?!? I remember @scifinator had a copy of the same book at around $100 and raised his price immediately. There are definitely a few clueless customers at MCS auctions nowadays. Unfortunately not a single one has ever overpaid for something I had listed.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
@flanders I think that was related to the brief "it's the real first appearance of Omega Red" surge before people came somewhat to their senses.

Huh?
Are there discussion about this here? What made someone[s] think he was in the issue before being debunked?
I bought 5 sets when it came out (I know, I know), I really don't want to pull one out to look.

Scott - the issue with Cyclops, Wolverine, and Iceman on the cover (#1C) has a 2-page gallery of X-Men villains. Omega Red's image is included in that rogues gallery - so some people are calling that his first appearance, not issue #4. Some speculator paid over $350 for a 9.8 copy in a February MCS auction. (Note: issue #1E - the $3.95 version - also has the gallery).

Yeah, I totally capitalized on that crazy speculation. I had a #1 collector's edition signed by Stan Lee, Claremont and Jim Lee graded 9.8 and sold it for $750.00 in a claim sale on IG. Used the money to buy nice raws of Uncanny X-Men 130 and 266 along with the costs for submitting them for pressing and grading.
