Turnaround times ; I’m in Canada14872

Yikes, I thought 2 months going on 3 was bad for a 4 book reholder. They’ve been in “grading” for over a month. The CS stories on the forum makes me not want to bother inquiring.

This is truly unacceptable, not just the turnaround times but a total lack of communication. No legitimate business should be ignoring their customers emails and be unreachable.

Thankfully I haven't sent any books in yet to be graded, been waiting for this pandemic to get better and things to open up at the border. Looks like I'll be using the "other guys". If things don't get resolved, I'm out.

Hate reading this, I sent in a couple of books to Oakville last week. I expect the process to take a long time but this is really discouraging.

Shame CBCS cannot simply explain the hold up for us Canucks.

I wrote to Universal Distribution and after explaining how they are different companies etc. they explained:

"...Steve Paulus (CC’d) was travelling from New York to our building a few times each month. He has been unable to cross the border to work from our new facility."

If this explains the delay,
1) it seems rather idiotic to not hire a locally-based humanoid to ship the books out.
2) it seems rather careless to not inform the customers of the reason for delay.
3) did I mention that it seems rather idiotic to... oh ya, I see it up there in part 1.

You will probably be ok...by the time your books are graded etc. the border should be open..or at least open to people with at least 1 shot of vaccine or however they are going to phase it back to normal.

With luck that will include the CBCS Canada staff

See..I don't quite believe this....I've gotten books back from the CBCS Canada site while the border was closed...so....Universal Distribution must be processing the orders on behalf of CBCS Canada (for a fee) - they are 100% sending the books to Dallas.

I can understand not hiring a local....having employees in other countries means needing to setup a different operating company, different taxes and reporting requirements etc.etc....alot for just a 1 person show a few times a month

This is idiotic at best. If you KNOW you can't come to get them, ship the bloody things. Take them to CrossBorder pickups, pay the pallet fee, and off they go.

Instead, you have a bunch of customers sitting and waiting, with zero communication and seemingly zero plan to rectify the problem.

You guys rag on me for constantly pointing out that CBCS does things second rate, but man if this isn't a damning example I dunno what is. I'd be furious. Reading the posts here, its just flat out incompetence.

Right. There are solutions and they should have been implemented a long time ago. This is only my second order to CBCS. I was waiting to get this pressing order back before seeing what I should press for future orders. Now I am just trying to figure out how to go about using the other guys to see if that is an option. I prefer CBCS cases (I find the giant number on the other guys cases to be obnoxious and it puts the grade before the book) and CBCS prices are better. On the other hand, I like it best when my books are actually returned.

Hey Kat, I was going through the other forum (crossing fingers for an update) and I noticed that you previously found a way to hire a local... "CBCS Canada was a 1 man operation, are you telling me that warehouse where the books are received they couldn't get a co-packer to bundle up the books once a month or conversely break down return shipments into CanPar or FedEx and get them out the door in a timely manner?" I think CBCS can find a way to get this stuff moving, if not directly, then through their shipping partner.

Just heard this news...

So, let's hope that goes for all those waiting for their books for the past few months.

This was my response on June 1st:

Both of these orders are currently in Oakville and will be sent on to the customer as soon as UD can schedule some time to ship it.

that's the crazy thing..the solution is not really that hard...now there may be some negotiation on timing and price. Lets assume UD wants to charge more than CBCS is willing to pay and because of covid rules won't allow outsiders into their warehouse (we don't at out production facilities) Then fine, reduce the timing to control the costs i.e. return books only 1 weekend per month or whatever - then communicate that on the CBCS Canada page "return shipping can take XX to XX weeks due to covid and will return to the normal XX to XX weeks once the border re-opens" - done and dusted -people know, prices are kept low - move on..

Far as I know, there isn't a CBCS employee on the Canadian side. Steve would travel back and forth, which is a challenging way of doing things.

Regardless, as soon as that travel was restricted a backup plan should have been put into place. As I said there are MANY ways of getting books across the border without massive shipping fees. I do it myself.

Hope all the Canadians get them back soon!

they have been routinely shipping them to Dallas. Dallas is about 5 weeks behind entering them as received into the system and it has been taking up to 8 weeks to send them from Canada - rest assured your books (and my May order!!) are likely in Dallas right now - just not entered.

Universal has been sending them down but they have their own operation to run....not sure what is involved and why a body couldn't be thrown at it once every 2 weeks to speed things along..but that is a whole other pile of beans.

Not as simple as hiring a body in Canada - that opens up all sorts of legal and financial requirements. Pay a 3rd party i.e. Universal to do it - 100% the way to go - but we don't know if they could man up. Heck - maybe they are a small 1 or 2 person operation and I can almost guarantee that no facility would let outsiders into their buildings during covid (our production sites haven't!)

^^^^^^
100% - as soon as it was evident the border wasn't opening soon - something should have been worked out - or at the very least - communicated that there were going to be extra delays until something was figured out.

Communication and management of expectations is SUPER important - I thought everyone knew that

It is my birthday June 14th.
I would LOVE to see them as ENTERED into the system

I REALLY dont care about the wait time ( yes its awful) ...I just want to know that my books are SOMEWHERE >?

A quick scan of a sticker for Canadian submissions would be easy enough>?
NO COST AND someone has to handle them >?

Hire an independent shipper for the 3 months or so >> how about using Shipping Wars >??!! lol
