Crossing over CGC comics to CBCS14848

Collector earthprime private msg quote post Address this user
Does anyone have any experience with re-slabbing a CGC comic with CBCS? Did it retain it's grade? Did you submit the comic in its CGC holder, or just with the CGC label (raw)?

You can submit in the holder, they crack it and regrade.

CBCS will grade the book with no consideration of its CGC grade. Therefore, the book could get a lower grade (or higher or identical).

Personally I would leave it in tbe holder for extra protection when shipping. Plus CBCS prolly has more practice extracting books from shell than yourself, to minimize an accident....

I guess the question is why you would in the first place? Then you can figure out if the risk and potential value loss is worth it

The new CBCS holders really do outshine the cgc holders. The cgc holders are as heavy as boat anchors.

It would suck if you got it p&c and it gives u a lower grade.

If your book is a gift grade, then I would leave it in the slab it currently sits in.

On the other hand, if you got the opposite of a gift grade (I guess "rooked"?), then yea.
Plenty of that going around too

It's true though. He's risking a lower grade.

If he just wanted it in a cbcs case, that's that. Can't argue. But if it comes back the dame y grade it will likely sell for less. I might do it if I was a big cbcs fan and was confident in the grade, and it was a pc book.

Adding a signature? Sure.

Think you can get a higher grade? I'd be damn sure first, that's a gamble, always.

That's my reasoning anyways.

I feel such a calm come over me when I get a book with notes "large bend across the back cover" and:
A. The book was professionally pressed
B. I've stared at the book for an hour; under different lighting, different angles, and the only bend I see is me bent over cringing in frustration.

(And yea.. CGC for the record)

I haven't seen em, so I can't say anything, but that's really weird comment. How much heavier could it possibly be, and what the hell kind of pipe cleaner arms do you have?

If the CGC comic is a 2.0, but I think it can actually fetch a 2.5 or higher, wouldn't the CGC label influence the CBCS grade?

@earthprime The graders don't see the cgc label. It's cracked out and discarded long before the book makes it to grading.

The one book I had that went from the cgc to CBCS was an 8.5 that stayed the same grade.

100% correct!!

I sent some in for the November promo...but...for most of them I was the original submitter to CGC and these were not pressed and I think with a press they could bump

the Flash might not..has a defect that I think will limit the grade to the 7.0 that it is but I'm ok wih that as the CGC holder has oil slicks all over it - will be much nicer in a CBCS slab' The JLA 9 is also a 7 but I got from ebay in a PGX slab so it needs to come out - bump or no bump - just hope it has all its pages!

I've had a few others before that either stayed the same or got a bump (with pressing). I try not to send unless I think a press will help

They meant for YOU to make a major bend over the back cover...rather than that there is one

Did this a few years back, but it's probably still about the same. Most stayed the same with some minor grade fluctuations. The Teen Titans #2 was the only grade I felt was kind of off, while the others were fine.

I crack out books for regrade myself.
Those holders are really nice for holding/displaying worthless books that look cool. The old CBCS slabs can be clipped back together and the old CGC slabs hold together surprisingly well with a little clear packing tape at the corners.

It seems a waste to throw them out

I felt like rolling the dice on this idea as well , however I'm not sure i want to run the risk: if it's slabbed, it's slabbed. Don't much like those other guys but I'm not gonna change horses half way across the river either.

I had a 9.6 CGC book CBCS pressed and graded that came back 9.8. No doubt that it would have come back 9.6 without a press.

In my personal opinion; CBCS grading is a bit more strict. I’d be ok with a .5 drop on a high or mid grade if that means it is accurately graded.

To answer your 2.0 question. I think coming back 2.5 would be dependent on being pressable. Otherwise it would stay the same

My first submission included a CGC slab. Had the dreaded green label (that was on me, sent in a signed book) and I sent in for VSP and included a press and the grade stayed the same but was verified.

@HulkSmash - 2nd that! But past history dictates that I would have @SteveRickets / CBCS press to get it up to snuff.
