| In another Topic, I admitted my ignorance in that I failed to have my first submission of 18 books to CBCS pressed and cleaned. I am now looking at my grader's notes for those books. Among them are an X-men 101 and a Ms. Marvel 1, both of which include in the notes: Distro Ink along spine. If sent back in for pressing, is that something that will or even can be removed? As always, input is appreciated. |

| Distribution Ink or “Distro Ink” is a common defect in older books. Basically they were lines sprayed or painted on books by the distributor to organize distribution. You can basically think of pressing as the same process as when you iron a shirt as it helps fix similar issues, creases, wrinkles, etc. As such, pressing will not remove writing or stains that have settled into the fibers of the paper. Most pressing services include a dry cleaning process which helps clean off surface dirt and can minimize things like pencil marks, which are not made to be permanent as most inks are. So no, pressing would not make a significant difference in reducing the distro ink flaws on your books |

| Sigh, I was hoping. ONe of my Sub-Mariners from the same group mentioned above came back with "Excessive Distro Ink" and it looks as if somebody dipped the spine in a puddle. Too bad. I am now having everything worth slabbing pressed. It just does not make sense not to. Oh, and the X-men 101, notes reflect multiple bends, etc that do not break color, so going to Mr. Ricketts for a press screen. | ||

| @tonyz58 For convenience sake I typically use the company that is grading. cbcs pressing their own books or ccs pressing cgc books. Cbcs does a wonderful job and press screen seems legit in that they don't crack open books they don't think will make a difference. Ccs / cgc I have had good results with too. A lot of high value books became higher value. Although there has been a few that came back the same as they went in. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Triplecdad As has been stated it cannot be "pressed" out, but in some cases it can be dry cleaned to reduce or even eliminate the amount of ink. Again, this is on a book by book basis, as some books have been painted with ink, as others have just been blotched with ink. |
