More accurate updates on current stage of an order. I've have 3 orders that have said "grading" for a month. I imagine they are not in grading anymore after a month, but somewhere in encapsulation or somewhere down the line. There has to be a more accurate way to show where your books are in the process other than just showing grading for long periods. I have seen the change to "shipping" before, but rarely any updates between "grading" and "shipping." As a collector it's nice to get updates when they move along the process more consistently.
I can watch my Domino's Pizza from start to finish and every step along the way, lol.

Sounds like something to bring up at the next ops meeting. Thanks for taking the time to explain!

I'm a little surprised to see "Status Updates" come up so often as really important to people. I currently have 4 submissions at CBCS and a 5th in the USPS systems. Better status updates would have no value for me. Honestly that's like the last place I would want to see resources and money dedicated. Back to my original post, If MCS accepts Raw Grade books, that has significant value for me. If the market starts to see more $50,000 books in CBCS slabs, that has value for me. If more people are persuaded to use CBCS and buy CBCS slabbed books, that has value for me. Additional status updates increases the value of my CBCS slabs by not one cent.

We have people on our neighborhood FB page constantly asking "Did USPS/UPS/FEDEX drop off my package at someone else's house? It's marked delivered, but isn't here" along with an updated "Just got it, two days late" message.

There is a value in adding one more "Received" or "In Hand" process before it goes into "Processing" to allay the fears that the shipping service (all of which are having logistical issues at present) lost their valuable collection.

That, to me, would give more confidence in the CBCS process, which would affect the more tangible values you've mentioned (more people using CBCS, buying CBCS slabs, etc..).

@EbayMafia it's not always about money, unless that's the sole reason for someone to get a book graded. Why have any status updates at all 7nder that mindset. Just mark recieved and nothing else untill they hit your doorstep, I guess.
If you're going to have status updates, which they do, then they should be somewhat more accurately updated, or just do away with them completely.

Not everyone sends stuff to CBCS just for sales value, and not everyone is content to just trust in the system and wait. There's personal value in the idea of knowing where in the process ones books are.

@EbayMafia status updates aren't a huge issue to me personally either, but I think you spend about as much time on the forum as I do. People, especially in the TAT threads, are constantly curious about where their books are. I've heard the same complaint about CGC; you send your comics and they're in a black hole until they come back. I think CBCS could differentiate themselves by improving the transparency there.

Now that I'm typing it, some kind of countdown would be awesome. "There are 50 batches ahead of you"...."there are 48 batches ahead of you", something like that. As long as orders don't get bumped for signings so that the number rarely goes up, I bet people would like that a lot. Maybe you'd have to add some awareness about fast pass 'skipping the line', so that people know the number can go up, but maybe that also drives more business to fast pass.

@sborock I know you and I talked about this years ago, but I thought I'd bring it up here. It would really be cool to have a video made where we can see the different stages being done. I think it would be great to just get a feel for the process, especially with all the new collectors coming in. Personally, I'd be interested in seeing how big the vault is!! Of course, I understand if it would be proprietary information and could not be done. I don't know if you need approval from Beckett now or not. Just wanted to bring it up.

@xkonk, I need to know when my books arrive and when they ship. Anyone who needs more than that...maybe that's a service they should pay for separately. It's not something that should be subsidized by charging more to those of us who don't need it. I'd love to know how important it is to people if it were an "a la carte" service that cost an extra $2. Airlines made baggage charges "a la carte" and many people learned that they didn't actually need as much baggage as they previously thought they did.

I know I would drive a few hours each way to submit larger orders. Plus I've noticed many perspective clients on different social medias who have never sent in books that want to, don't out of fear or packing wrong and their books getting damaged.
Oh! and I'd like to be hired out here to work that office. Lol.

I think that a satellite drop off spots would be a great idea!
Oh, and your hired!

This is the #1 reason I don't grade more books. It's an absolutely nerve-racking experience to send five-figure stacks of books in the mail AND it's very expensive.

I've been selling a lot of slabs on Heritage and it's very convenient to just zip on over and drop off a box of slabs for them whenever I'm near Beverly Hills. Eliminates a lot of fright and hassle.

The new slabs are great!

And it’s great how friendly and accessible everyone at CBCS is.

As far as ideas:

An app! Let me scan my slabs, give me status updates on my order, offer a trading post and all on my phone.

I doubt it’s worth the cost, but consider custom slabs.

For example, I’ve got X-Men 1 and a facsimile and I’d like to show them both off. How about a side by side slab or slab holder?

Great question!

Sounds like something to bring up in our meetings! Thanks!

How different would this be than what Cody does in the Michigan area? He’s usually at our LCS every other month, taking submissions, helping people fill out the forms (if they need it), answering questions, etc.. I haven’t utilized this service yet, but I like how it’s still tied to a LCS as well.

Where a signature appears on the inside of a comic, how about a hi-res picture of it attached to Graders Notes for a small fee.

Also, hi-res images in general, I can't remember what CBCS charges but I remember thinking if it was a little cheaper I'd get one for every book I submit. Maybe there's some room to cut the price a bit in favour of higher volume.
