I just wanted to alert everybody to this one. When this last stimulus check came, besides paying on some bills, I shopped around for a mini fridge for my room. I looked around and bought one from a legit looking website. I paid through PayPal.

Long story short, the seller shipped a 6.4 oz package to an address near me. The tracking available to me showed the correct address. I finally contacted the local postmaster. After talking to him the second time, he realized I had been scammed.

What these sellers do is they manually change the address on the label. Therefore, the package shows delivered to the correct address, when it actually wasn't. I emailed PayPal, explained everything and even sent screenshots of an email the postmaster sent me explaining everything. PayPal contacted the seller and he sent them the tracking. It showed delivered, so PayPal denied my claim.

I then called PayPal. I talked to a rep and forwarded the postmaster's email to her. It wasn't enough. I have to get like a postal receipt to show it wasn't delivered to me. The postmaster emailed me a couple things from his computer. It is the best he can do. I'll find out if it is enough.

I ended up finding a mini fridge locally.

Here is a scfeenshot showing the fridge and website name.

Maybe send another E-mail to Paypal and ask them if you are the very first person to complain about fraudulent activity from this company...or have there been others before you? Kind of a long shot but it may get them thinking that they better take some action here before they incur legal liability.

@Jesse_O, first off, that sucks. Any kind of scam sucks. I'm sorry that you got taken.

Just so I understand, are you saying that your belief is that the shipper shipped to someone local who lived near you? And that person was in on the scam?

Thanks for the heads up.

Does the recorded weight obviously not matching that of a fridge make no difference to PayPal?

No. He found an address near me, possibly using Google maps, and just shipped a small package to that address with my name. The person who received it, probably just marked it "wrong address" and sent it back.

Yes. A mini fridge is 33 pounds in the box. The tracking shows 6.4 ozs. That evidently doesn't matter to PayPal.

I'll be calling and talking to them. The postmaster said it is a common PayPal scam. Apparently PayPal doesn't care.

When my carrier delivers mail and scans it in, the GPS is posted to the transponder that they are scanning with. They sometimes get messages on the screen saying that the address is 500 ft. North of them, so an error, and won't go in. Then they have to override it. The point I am making is that thing got scanned at delivery, and the GPS should say where this "manually added address" is located.

If you can show this discrepancy, at the very least you have a Postal Fraud case. That can be filed and investigated, a violation of Federal Law. And possibly the end delivery point can be determined exactly, and a knock on that door might lead to more information.

That s exactly what the postmaster sent me. The GPS tracking showed it to be delivered a block away.

Edit: what he sent me this last time, not the first time.

Also, if you used a credit card through PayPal to purchase that fridge, the cc company might be more helpful. They can force a refund through Paypal.

That's my next step if I can't convince PayPal to refund me.

Geez! I get it now. Man, that sucks. It's getting more and more difficult to not just buy from the "big guys." That's a shame.

Be careful with the charge back via PayPal. It will leave you in the hole with the amount being charged back in your account. I had an issue and PayPal was anal about , and told me I had to put the money back on before they can unlock my account.

Anyhow, there was an episode on Judge Judy where a lady got scammed on eBay because the seller sent a picture of a cellphone instead of a cellphone. Judge Judy busted the scammer by saying that she listed the item weighs 6.4oz and the paper weighs no where that, therefore it was a false advertisement. Needless to say, the lady got her money back.
