Or how do you ship your precious to its new home? was thinking u.s. priority then saw insurance cap at 100. Then eyeballing registered but saw how slow... so I'd be sending a medium sized (similar priority) box with one book(~500.00) would be roughly how much to send - ? or is Fed /ups more ideal? know many of you have this dialed. attempting to price for future sales with as few growing pains as possible. very appreciated.

If you are going through ebay, there is a drop down selection to use usps insurance instead of the default service. That allows fir higher insurance.

Bronte how to you handle sales off of eBay?

I don't. The way I see it, ebay got me the business I'll leave it to them to profit from it. I did deviate one time because I really wanted the book and the seller had an account on CBCS forums and we concluded business off here. But selling wise, I don't break from that. I don't need to get myself suspended or banned for trying to save a few dollars

I didn't mean cheating on eBay. Like say - I sell from here or some similar site. I've sold on eBay never books. But I didn't mean setting it up there and then stiffing 'em. but you sound all in with eBay. got a little spoked with all the mail back damage tales on here. How have you mastered that then?

I've sold to folks on tbe forums but always used paypal goods and services. No problems. Everyone here seems solid.

As for ebay they did me a solid when a guy who bought my book and took a hammer to the cgc case. The guy ended up mailing the book back to me and ebay yanked 1/2 the books value and put it in my account. So in that sense I'm pro ebay. But ebay has shady stuff too. I just bought a marvel spotlight 8.0 and it turns out it was a scam. Ebay refunded money. They said that in 48 hours or less it should be completely refunded.

I would hardly say I mastered anything. I am fortunate in that most things have been pleasant. But I am not an aggressive person and when speaking with ebay or anyone else I try not to irk folks into going against me.

Fedex and UPS are both decent options for $500 packages. I just recently shipped over $10K in graded books in one box to MCS for consignment; after considerable research I went with USPS registered mail. It isn’t fast but it’s reliable. If I needed it fast and fully insured I would look into a private courier.

When buying precious metals online, they are (in my experience) shipped via registered mail; I figure the dealers know what they’re doing.

Joosh about how much for one book usa insured around 500 registered usps or fedex or Ups? Am attempting to list a book for sale and offer 'free' shipping or already included shipping in reality. Nothings ever free - unless you got nothing to loose. But would so like some fair numbers to 'Charge' or wave. Without having to visit all three.

Just remember, always post that a signature is required if the signature is required. Some folks pitch a fit if they need to sign and weren't made aware of it up front.

You can buy extra insurance at the post office if you pay for the package there. Or you can make a free account on USPS.com and use their click and ship option, which is nice because then you can just log back in for tracking info.

The full cost is going to depend on where you're sending it to; here on the East Coast, it cost me $20 to send something Priority to California but $13.50 to send to CBCS in Texas. I don't remember how much $500 in insurance costs off the top of my head but I would guess in the $5 to $10 range on top of the shipping cost.

Avoid USPS. I’ve been switching to FedEx and things seem to be better. Just my opinion.

@robo I do but cost wise USPS will be the best bang for your buck as there is no surcharge for residential deliveries. I assume most people have books shipped to their house.

@robo I wouldn’t recommend no insurance you do that and it gets lost most you will get is $50 so in the end you got $50 for a $500 book. Do yourself a favor and don’t cheap out on insurance it’s only a few bucks.

Hi, noob here

Trying to keep up front costs down; do most of you enter the value of the book in your order form or buy insurance from the carrier. Because the former seems to double the price.

I would enter the true value of your book and buy insurance.

One thing I never skimp on is shipping insurance. In fact, I often overestimate the value for shipping. If anything happens, I don't want to be the only one getting screwed.
