Should I resubmit?14496

Collector 99issues private msg quote post Address this user
Xmen 0.5 cgc blue label notes consist of
- stan lee written on cover
- spine split
- cover detached from book

I prefer CBCS but should i resubmit out of fear of the cover issues?

I was hoping that the book would come back higher if verified by CBCS but the spine split scares me. Ive seen 2.5s with cover completely detached.

Any input is helpful. Thank you.

what X-men book is this?

You got pictures?

What issue of X-Men? Definitely provide pictures if available?

Also, depending on the rest of the book’s condition, the benefit to the grade of having the writing on the cover verified may be minimal if any. Definitely check out CBCS’ Grading Scale

There is certainly value in having a verified Stan Lee signature, but verification is not guaranteed, especially with Stan Lee signatures, which are hit and miss as far as verification goes

What issue is it? Please provide some photos, the cgc grade alone isn't enough to give an opinion...looks like I posted without refreshing first.

I'm going to say no. Stan Lee writing aside detached cover spline split. Also guessing folds bends tears amature restoration ect. Can't buy a higher grade. Is what it is.

I believe you can send a photo to Beckett directly and they will let you know if the signature is likely to pass verification. That way you have more info to decide if you want to have it regraded and verified.

Here's the site. Well worth the $10 imo:

It looks like the back cover is missing, so I don’t see how it could get a higher grade.

If that was my book I would re-grade specifically for the signature. I wouldn't care about the grade. It's already a .5 so it can't go much lower. If I felt the signature would pass VSP I'd definitely re-grade.

I'd send it to CBCS in the CGC case.

The signature looks good to me but ofcourse I'm not a professional.

Edit - the ebay seller posted the wrong picture. There is only one back cover, the Christmas card one.

I was wondering about this. There are at least two different back covers for X-men #1. Here are samples from ebay. The first is from a 6.5, the second from a 7.5. I tried searching this and didn't come up with anything. Does anyone know more about this? Or have a link?

Can't believe they forgot to note that on the label. For such a monster book too...

If it were me, I would reslab for signature verification. Probably worth it for that alone.

@GAC Totally agree. The VSP adds value. Personally, the signature looks authentic to me, especially when I compare it to an authentic signature I had awhile back before selling. Of course, I'm not a professional either, but it looks legit to me.

I agree with others that the signature can't be affecting the grade if it's already that low, so I don't see how you get a bump. But a verified Stan sig would be nicer than a "name written in maker" sig.

@Jesse_O - The 6.5 copy has the correct back cover. I sent a PM to the eBay seller with the other copy asking him if he is displaying the correct back cover for his X-Men #1.

I would verify right away, makes the book more unique. And a value jump.

That would explain it. I thought it was weird, but they were actually both in the first 5 or so comics that I looked at. I even checked Grand Comics and found nothing about different back covers.

Would buying a contemporaneous silver age book with the same back cover and marrying the covers be an option? It would be a restored book at that point, but would present better. Not sure you'd get the grade up to a 1.0, but perhaps it's something to consider. I know that's been done to some golden age keys in the past.

Are you kidding me? I had no idea there were two different back covers. And Captain America 100 has two different colors in the title. It's like these freak mutie variants have been living among us all this time and we're just now starting to recognize them. We need to start a registration process.

No. I was wrong. There is only one. @esaravo figured that the second one just posted the wrong picture on eBay. I'll edit my post.

@MatterEaterLad

Well if you start adding paper to marry the back cover at that point you may as well restore the whole thing. The front cover is pretty solid and the book looks good from the back as well.

Is anyone else bothered that the CGC label does not note the book as Incomplete or note that the back cover is missing? I find the whole thing suspect. I would definitely do the $10 pre-verification from Beckett. Wouldn't be surprised if someone has tried to verify this signature before. If it passes, I would send it to CBCS for full verification...but it will still be a 0.5 grade.

I think a .5 grade demands that something is missing. I could be wrong.
