I'm gonna post this example again of what can happen when you focus on minimizing 3rd party fees in our industry. Notice that the fully fee-loaded example is literally 50% more than the non-fee example, and they both net the same amount to the seller:

A slabbed 6.0 on Ebay Priced at $95 with Flat Rate shipping of $15 and potential sales tax of $9. Total cost to the buyer of $110-$119. Net to seller after selling and grading fees: $60

A CBCS Raw Grade 6.0 on the Forum at $80-$85, Free shipping in padded envelope with cardboard. Total cost to the buyer of $80-$85. Net to seller after grading and shipping fees: $60-$65

Interesting. I've never seen a raw graded book for sale so I have zero experience with them, but do you find the raw grade adds value on sales vs straight raw? Especially after the grading fee? Is it actually worth it?

I think I'd still basically ignore the raw grade aspect just because damage can occur afterward. Its a nice thing to see I think, but I'd put more trust into the book itself rather than the grade, which I guess is the opposite of a full graded book (if thats the term, I dunno.)

@mediaslave I have been selling the raw grade books for about two years and they definitely do sell. In some cases almost as much as a fully slabbed book. Just depends on the book I suppose.
In my experience it adds value to any book vs a normal raw grade comic.

In this particular example I would buy the slabbed $110-$119 book. Any book I want for my PC I'll want slabbed so if I bought the raw grade and sent for slabbing I'd be right around or slightly more than the slabbed $110-$119 price any way.

If I wasn't intending on slabbing then I'd consider the raw grade but I'd compare to other trusted raw book dealers....so I guess for me, the raw grade is not useful.

The main problem for me with the CBCS raw grade (now that restoration check is included) is that I can't see the back cover. I've seen far too many overgraded slabs from both CGC and CBCS and unfortunately purchased more than a few because I didn't look at the photos close enough, for me to continue to make purchases without clear photos or scans of the front and back of the comic.

Not taking it as an attack at all. it's because I like to display, again for me, not for sale, raw comics in my office as well as slabs. I like to look at them, like to have them around. Plus, when not displayed, they are far smaller and easier to deal with and store.

If I'm slabbing something it's either something SUPER valuable (whether monetary wise, or just something that means a lot to me personally) that I want to know is protected, or I want to sell it. If something falls in that middle ground, $25-$500'ish comics, another option is always welcome.

The CBCS case is apparently as nice as you can get (I haven't seen one myself) so why would you choose raw over slabbed?

Not meant as an attack or anything (people on forums are antsy sometimes), just genuinely curious why you'd choose one over the other.

I assume in this question we are talking about selling remotely through online platforms. Definitely adds value over raws at the low-end grades and high-end grades. If you have an 8.0-9.0 of some Silver or Bronze Age book, it's really hard to get full value on Ebay without 3rd party verification. If you have a 2.0 with detached cover, you can often get the 2.0 graded price with 3rd party verification. Without that, I don't expect to get more than half of 2.0 graded price. The mid-grade books it's hard to say if it adds value but those are the books that I'm most uncomfortable trying to sell remotely without 3rd party grade verification. It also eliminates the need to accept returns...which was probably the most important thing for me.

For an idea of what I think should go Raw Grade, here's a submission I shipped off earlier today. Notice they are all pre-1975. For anything modern I just pay the extra few bucks for slabbed. I put in expected grades to illustrate why they would be Raw Grade rather than slabbed. Many of these books would be difficult grade properly, let alone get decent value for:

Daredevil #16 [1970]4.5
Flash #109 [1961]3.0
Flash #124 [1963]6.5
Green Lantern #11 [1964]6.0
Green Lantern #18 [1965]6.0
Green Lantern #37 [1966]5.0
Green Lantern #61 9.0
House of Mystery #175 [1969]6.0
House of Mystery #179 [1968]4.5
House of Mystery #195 [1971]7.0
Justice League of America #29 [1966]5.5
Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #8 [1964]5.0
Superboy #98 [1960]6.5
Tales of Suspense #98 [1967]6.5
Teen Titans #1 [1966]2.5
Uncanny X-Men #28 [1967]4.5
Uncanny X-Men #49 [1968]3.5
Uncanny X-Men #50 [1968]4.0
Uncanny X-Men #56 [1968]7.5
Uncanny X-Men #60 [1969]5.5
Uncanny X-Men #64 [1969]5.5
