CPA COMIC PAGE AUTHENTICATION14482

I've spent years perfecting my brand of assholery. DrWatson private msg quote post Address this user
Interesting.

https://www.cpacomic.com/

Note that you have to submit the complete book and let them cut the pages out for you. Fourteen bucks a page, plus tax and S&H, and a 50 page minimum with a 90 day TAT due to high demand and the pandemic.

Imagine.

That seems like an extremely high price to have a page graded and then placed in a cheap looking holder with an even cheaper looking label.

I also like how they try to make their product seem more desirable by stating there is a 90 day tat due to the overwhelming demand for this new service, as if anyone would be gullible enough to believe this.

Well, if it's only one person working day and, err... day encapsulating pages, then it probably takes a while.

I so badly want to say that this is my company and just start making up answers to everyone's questions and comments. Does anyone know if grader notes are free?

.
There are many sold listings on eBay believe it or not. However, the seller is from Mooresville, NC, the same town that CPA is based out of.

COI (Conflict of Interest) grading should be the new name.

@EbayMafia After reading through the FAQ's, I didn't see any mention of Graders Notes,... unless I missed it.

No offense to the owner of the business but I could never use this service.

If by dumb luck I happen on a coverless action 1 missing a half a dozen wraps I'd send what's left the cgc or cbcs to have it authenticated and slabbed.

Now there are dealers who deal in selling pages and they are complete wraps that can be married to a book making it complete even though they'll take a big hit being graded by a competent 3rd party graded.

A single page cut out can't be used to marry a book properly except float inside the book loosely.

Once again a service not for me.

That was my thought. You're paying this company to destroy a comic that you could arguably sell a graded copy for more.

I doubt this service gets any traction....I dont see piles of books getting mutilated.

I just stumbled on my first CPA pages on ebay while searching for some books. One seller, emerald-imports, has about 150 listings for CPA pages, including a few they list as complete books graded as individual pages. The “complete books” are “Sponsored results” and are priced optimistically as you could get a complete graded book of a comparable grade for about the same, if not less than what they’re asking. Though they are open to offers.

Yeah, let's tear up every comic!

What is going on that people would do this to their favorite books?

I guess I am just old.

@dielinfinite Emerald-imports aka CPA. At least there seems to be only one person crazy enough to have used their services...the owner.

@flanders You did the research to confirm exactly what I was thinking. It kind of feels like the whole CPA LLC is a cover story for a guy doing this with his own books and trying to sell the pages. I'm sure they would take submissions from the general public, but at $700 minimum per order there can't be much demand from outsiders.

Just the never ending pursuit of manufactured value. Although to be completely fair, I remember hearing some people say the same thing when you first introduced slabbing, lol.

No, it's not fair.
Huge difference between protecting a book in a holder and tearing them up. Huge.

Per his own guide, no page can get above a .8 since its either altered or trimmed (out of the original book)
I would love to see some customer reviews from this company!

@flanders I had a feeling that would be the case seeing as some of the “full comics” being sold are listed for the minimum grading price at CPA. That and their large number of CPA products. I haven’t searched but they might be the only seller selling CPA on ebay. Along with the sold items, their stock represents about $3k in grading fees at CPA. Which I would think is a lot for an outsider to throw at an unproven company but if you’re doing it to books yourself then it probably costs a few pennies a book.

I don't believe they count it as trimming when they cut the page out of the book. I think they would be referring to the other three sides.

I'd say that someone had a lower grade copy of a sought after book with something missing from it like a centerfold or it had no cover. They looked at the potential of selling it off whole vs pages and weighed the potential income doing either way. If they could make more money grading and selling pages from it than selling it whole I can see them selling it piecemeal. I wouldn't agree with it but with the prices being as stupid as they are in today's market I can see it happening. Well, it is happening.

But in fairness it might be a way for the "But you can't read the comic book anymore" collectors to finally embrace comic book encapsulation.
