Does anyone have the Collectibles Insurance Service? If you do, how do you like it and do you know the general cost. I wanted to get some opinions before I called them.

About 630$ for a 140k policy for a year. This policy is a user version NOT the dealer version. If you have a monitoring service with burglar alarm it chips away at the cost a few bucks.

Later this year I need go update my policy with a higher value due to this year's rise in values of books.

I only submitted one claim but it was cancelled when they found the package.

Might need to test insurance with claim. Fedex seems to have misplaced my package again. They said give them 5 days before I can file claim.

My wife has been redoing all our insurance so I actually have a call tomorrow to talk with State Farm about a personal articles policy. I can report back with some details if people are interested.

I got to inventory my slabs tonight as prep for the conversation. Turns out I have 202 (with a few more set to arrive Thursday).

I'd be interested. My home and auto are currently through State Farm. I'd be curious how they handle collectables.

I have a policy with them. I’ll have to up my policy significantly, but I found it very reasonable.

Just got off the phone with State Farm. The personal articles policy covers really anything (apparently it's most often used for jewelry) but the main point is to separate things out from the value of your home and your home policy.

The top line info would be a rough quote of $420 a year with $0 deductible for a $70k collection. If you go with a $100 deductible the premium goes down to $357, and the deductible can go as high as $1000. You get to choose the deductible.

If anyone has questions besides what I have below, let me know. I'm sure there are things I would like to know that I forgot to ask about.

Details: basically, the more info you have on file, the better (which also applies to your TVs and any other pricey thing in your home, car, etc. for those policies). So in my case I apparently have ~10 books worth $1000 or more; I would take photos or scans of those and provide receipts/eBay records if possible and send them to State Farm. I'll also have a spreadsheet with as many books and their details as I care to list.

For appraisals, they might (?) have my higher/highest value book appraised. They mentioned having someone local but I'm not 100% on how that part works. If I ever had to submit a claim they would check whatever details I could provide and that they have on file and have an appraiser determine the current value.

In terms of updating the policy, she said to update them whenever making a large purchase, like something that would go onto the $1k-plus list. I could similarly let them know if I bought enough stuff that the overall value went up $1000, but she said it was only like an extra $5 on the premium to cover $71k versus $70k, so it isn't a huge deal. Related, if the market goes down (or way up again), even if I don't buy anything new, I could call and adjust the total value. But she said that they account for market changes as part of the policy. Lots of people cover their wedding rings or whatever and then never change their policy for years even though the price of platinum and diamonds goes up and down; the appraisal a the time of a claim seems to be the important part.

The policy covers pretty much any kind of loss; fire, vandalism, 'disappearance'. I asked specifically about covering mail/shipping, and she said they don't do that. The idea for the policy is to be rarely used, I think, so they don't want people submitting claims as often as things might be lost if you're shipping all the time. So I would still be getting USPS/FedEx/whatever coverage when I ship things.

I have had it for a few years now.

So far I have not needed to file any claims.

I signed up a couple of weeks ago with a $100,000 policy for $522 a year. I did it more for the shipping insurance given how crazy everything is with carriers right now.

A lot of it has to be sent Adult Signature Required to be covered, which can be a pain. However, I think it's worth it.

Yes, but there are monetary limits based on which shipping method you choose and they vary from carrier to carrier.

Would one policy be able to cover both comics and action figures/toys as well? I've always wondered about this but haven't ever put in a request for a quote but it's always on my "To Do" list

When you apply for a policy, there is a list of items that you check if you want them covered. If your item isn't listed, I think there is also an other space or at least an area to note what it is you want covered. It might even fall under a general "Collectibles" tab.

I just updated my insurance policy. For a user policy. NOT dealer, it is 735$ / 300k policy.

Edit

You need to list / schedule any items worth over 25k in value.
