The fact that CGC raised their prices was fine. The way they did it sucked. Should have given 30 days to submit under the old pricing, and IMO should not have cut the dealer's discount. I completely understand why they did it though, and fully expect CBCS to do the same. Even ignoring the new staff and building for CGC, cardboard, plastic and shipping costs are up quite a bit. Can't expect a company to just absorb that and giggle. CBCS is feeling that hit just like every other company out there. I deal a lot with mountain bike stuff, and pricing is up across the board, and TATs for something as simple as a saddle is now 300 days. That makes the whining about CGCs TAT even funnier. Worse when you see people whining about not getting their book back for 60 days, and that same book has been in a shortbox for 20 years lol Despite this, I seriously don't expect to see much of a change in market share. Might see some guys trying out CBCS, but as soon as the word is out that CGCs TATs are down, they'll likely go back. I've asked a few dealers I know if they were considering it, and not one is even entertaining the idea. Red Hood might, but 40k ain't much to be honest, not compared to some of the monsters out there. And when Red Hoods grading demands drop because their customers want something else... It's also funny reading stories complaining about TATs on a CBCS forum, when CBCS had TATs of 9+ MONTHS when they moved... ![]() |

I’ve see a lot of creators leaving CGC and applying with CBCS tired of the crappy service. All the comic stores around here are flipping to CBCS. I think this is going to be a new norm for both companies. CGC lacking in every way. CBCS surpassing CGC in every way. |

I get that input prices have increased...but realistically it should be a short bump while the covid restrictions are creating larger demand and while once in a decade or two decade events like snow in Texas cause supply shortages (again...thank you Texas power company for not doing what you should have decades ago and making the issue worse) Prices as they say are sticky i.e. once they are up they rarely come down..or at least not as fast they went up. In a year or two when hopefully the world is more normal than now...and prices for inputs fall again..do you honestly see the fees coming back down? Also, none of us know the contracts these companies have in place..supply may not meet demand..but if your contract is set then your input price doesn't go up! sure you may get another source in the short term to meet your demand and that may be more expensive..but again..short term In the company I work for some of our major inputs have at least 2 suppliers at like 70/30 or 80/20..it's just enough of a threat to keep prices down as the 30 or 20% supplier has the capacity to take over if the other got too stupid with the pricing...and the smaller supplier hangs around hoping for just that, or some other production hickup with the big guys..like equipment failures or labour disputes etc. etc. |

@KatKomics All well and good to say supplier contracts are in place, but the reality is they aren't always foolproof. Case in point, all the bike stores up here had distributors come to them and say they owed about 15% more on bikes they had already ordered. If they didn't pay, the order would be canceled and some other shop would buy them near instantly. This is despite contracts in place down the entire supplier line. There's almost always a contingency plan for suppliers to get out of something (act of god I think), and no doubt the pandemic hit that clause hard ![]() Right now I struggle to think of a company that hasn't raised its pricing, or is at least thinking about it strongly. What can ya do I guess. |

Maybe in a couple weeks I'll be sending in a large submission before the rush and using CBCS's pressing services for the first time, since their turnaround is about the same as the other pressers I would consider using. |

I still need to use my membership coupons from last July when I renewed. I'll be putting together a small order for that along with a larger submission (maybe 20-30). Might use CFP for pressing since Joe will send the books to TX for me.

This week I had to correct myself after hearing that in some places it is up 285%. Last year an average gallon of gas in the US was $2.02. One year later it's $3.05. That's a 50% increase. It's a massive wave of inflation that people are in denial about and it's got absolutely nothing to do with a power company in Texas. Used to be that bad employment numbers worked against inflation...but at the moment one doesn't have to work in order to have plenty of spending money. Bad employment numbers are just bad for productivity and supply...they do nothing to keep prices down anymore. |

@EbayMafia I'll have to find the article..I was researching resin prices and apparently there is a direct relation to the power outage in Texas...it caused a major facility to go down which caused a shortage and an increase in resin costs...would there have been an increase due to increased demand - probably... would the increase have been as much without the production shutdown too - likely not I expect lumber is the same there as here...a combo hit!! demand waaaay up but here with cycling through lockdowns it also meant production was short |

Mother's day today and we were selling live crab for, wait for it, $22.99 a pound. 3 crab over $130 as they are between 2 to 2.5 pounds each. Just a cost and supply thing going on at the moment. But ouch. Maine lobster $25.99 a pound |

And it wouldn't explain the other inflation in many other raw materials all over the world. Reality is that currencies are losing value relative to raw materials and hard goods. |

I'll give the CGC some credit. The Newton rings have been less visible or gone from some of their newer slab jobs. Overall, the CGC is shallow and pedantic.
