@IronMan the joke was about the banner ads, but the thread was removed last night when I went to read it. I can see that it is back up now so I'm thinking the same that the mods cleaned it up some. I'm not skilled enough to make fake screenshots.

@chester15 thanks for the info. Yeah I guess I just don't submit enough to justify spending the $299. You get $150 credit, 10% off grading (which I used to get on the premium), and $149 of smoke blown up your ass! Also, now there is basically no benefit to get the "premium" membership either. It's pretty much the same as the associate one...lol. |

Yeah I cant justify that either . I also really hate that you have to pay to submit books direct......what a bunch of crooks.

The Premium nets out to be free membership, as long as you can spend your $150 credit. The Elite leaves you $149 out of pocket after you use the credit, but you continue to save on subsequent orders. You have to spend another $1500 in grading fees to save the $150 "investment" that you have hanging. Some people spend that in a month, others not so much. |

Quote:Originally Posted by chester15 The math above is spot on. If you send CGC submissions worth $1500 over a year, you break even with an Elite membership. More than that you are saving money. But we should not lose sight of the fact that CGC has cut the discounts for collector society memberships. 5% for associate to zero. 10% for premium to zero. 15% for elite has dropped to 10%. If the discount had stayed at 15%, a premium membership would recover its cost premium at $1000 in submissions. Now it's $1500. It's the removal and reduction of dealer/member account discounts that leaves me salty. Price increases I get. But these are CGC's BEST CUSTOMERS. And many have been so for decades. Sending a LOT of books. Basically it feels like CGC is saying "yeah, we got us thousands of newbs sending in tens of thousands of books every week now. Appreciate your being with us in the past, but you are gonna have to take a haircut now". Finally, discount reductions are just thinly disguised price hikes. It's sleight of hand. Look! It's only a $2 increase in moderns. 10%. Except combined with a reduction in discounts - like say dealer going from 20% to 15% - the price increase is 17%. And if you want your books back in a reasonable length of time and fast track, that price increase/discount reduction works out to 32% more. If you were using Value Fast track, the combined discount reductions price value tier eliminated move to economy price increase is 38%. |

I just saw that Red Hood Comics is going with CBCS exclusively. As a dealer, he posted that he spent almost $40k on grading last year, but he's done with CGC. Cutting dealer discounts, having to pay for graders notes, inconsistent grading, and the worst turnaround time in the industry were his stated reasons. The times they are a changing. |

It seems like CGC is shooting themselves in the foot. I envision that if they financially recognize any sort of consumer backlash...this will be reversed.

After I heard about the CGC issues I hustled and put together about 75 books for submission to CBCS. We may feel all safe over here at CBCS with 12 week TAT's...like we have some kind of port in a storm. But I'm pretty sure our little port is going to be over-run with CGC refugees in the next 90 days. I was already starting to get that sense a couple months ago from the CGC boardies that are migrating over here. I wanted to get ahead of the big rush that I think is coming. Kind of my version of hoarding toilet paper I guess. |

The fact that CGC raised their prices was fine. The way they did it sucked. Should have given 30 days to submit under the old pricing, and IMO should not have cut the dealer's discount. I completely understand why they did it though, and fully expect CBCS to do the same. Even ignoring the new staff and building for CGC, cardboard, plastic and shipping costs are up quite a bit. Can't expect a company to just absorb that and giggle. CBCS is feeling that hit just like every other company out there. I deal a lot with mountain bike stuff, and pricing is up across the board, and TATs for something as simple as a saddle is now 300 days. That makes the whining about CGCs TAT even funnier. Worse when you see people whining about not getting their book back for 60 days, and that same book has been in a shortbox for 20 years lol Despite this, I seriously don't expect to see much of a change in market share. Might see some guys trying out CBCS, but as soon as the word is out that CGCs TATs are down, they'll likely go back. I've asked a few dealers I know if they were considering it, and not one is even entertaining the idea. Red Hood might, but 40k ain't much to be honest, not compared to some of the monsters out there. And when Red Hoods grading demands drop because their customers want something else... It's also funny reading stories complaining about TATs on a CBCS forum, when CBCS had TATs of 9+ MONTHS when they moved... ![]() |

I’ve see a lot of creators leaving CGC and applying with CBCS tired of the crappy service. All the comic stores around here are flipping to CBCS. I think this is going to be a new norm for both companies. CGC lacking in every way. CBCS surpassing CGC in every way. |
