Hey guys, Can someone let me know if this kind of stamp can have an impact on the grade of the book ? Also, does CBCS will put a different label or will mention something on the label ? I am asking because, when submitting such comic to CGC, they will put a green label and will mention the stamp on the label. I was wondering if it was also the case with CBCS. Thanks ! ![]() |

Yes the store stamp would have an effect on the grade. CBCS won't put a different label on it. I'm not sure if the stamp would be mentioned on the label itself but it would certainly appear on the grader's notes.

I’m a noob but thought I’d add this as a possible reference. I know there is a Spider-Man 1 (1990) signed by McFarlane and stamped on the back, I’ve found many in 9.8 CBCS verified grades. Does the fact that it’s signed/stamped by the creator make a difference when discussing the impact of the grade? A stamp is a stamp right? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/283553074540 |

The size and obtrusiveness of a stamp makes a difference. In addition, certain allowances are made if a signature is verified. For example an unwitnessed sketch or edition numbering will not detract from the grade if the signature on the book is verified. It is possible that the stamp was either allowed due to the verified signature or was considered part of McFarlane’s Signature for the time

@dielinfinite that makes sense to me. I’ve been looking and can only find a CGC Qualified grade of a FCBD issue with a store stamp (as mentioned in the OP)

@bythegram Now your post has me intrigued. I sent a copy of the Mcfarlane signed Spider-Man 1 with the Spider's Web stamp. I was told because of the stamp my book could only receive the highest grade of 9.6 even though it's a 9.8 copy.

It is a designated space for a store stamp on FCBD books and I’m surprised when I see stores went through the effort of stamping all those books. Honestly it doesn’t detract from the book in my opinion. Like date stamps on GA/SA books; it’s just what they did then.

@Kenjisan1967 I remember hearing the same thing but I actively search on eBay for Spider-Man 1 and see 9.8 signed/stamped pop up more often than not. I wonder if something changed in the policy. @HulkSmash I agree in that given the fact that placement is dedicated and arguably “supposed” to be stamped I would have assumed a stamp there would be ok. But these are simply my observations. I have no dog in this fight either way. Anyone know if CBCS has it written down anywhere how stamps affect grade and if exceptions are made? |

I remember hearing Steve on a podcast talk about this. I think it was Comics with Bueller. IIRC he said that stamps do not change the grade. May have been for SA books though. |

Here was my submission for everyone's scrutiny. I even sent a copy of the original letter of authenticity when I sent my book in. As you can see the only thing stated in my grader notes is the stamp. Maybe my eyes are missing something that makes my copy lower then the one one eBay.??? Maybe I need to crack and resubmit...maybe get the higher grade and the new yellow label?![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
