I grew up with 3 goats and 2 sheep. The mullet was just my way of showing the world that I intended to rise above my natural station in life, lol. You have no idea how thankful I am that cell phone cameras wouldn't be around for a good 15 years after my mullet days. No pics= didn't happen.

@HotKeyComics Do you know how to do the online pre-screen for $10 through Beckett?

I finally have a legit question. I’m on my way to Pasadena (anniversary continuation) and was wondering if anyone knew of a good comic book store in the area?

I’m no expert but this looks legit. I have a couple.

I did the prescreen that Ebay mentioned and they said it was unlikely to pass.

Failing to pass doesnt mean it is not a legitimate signature but rather that it lacks enough identifying characteristics to support a positive determination. That signature looks kind of clumpy, perhaps due to the pen used, which probably is the issue .

In this case I’m going to disagree with the experts. It looks legit and I would expect it to pass. Again I’m no expert (so I’d be prepared to be disappointed)

When I see high-dollar signatures in the wild my skeptical side assumes that somebody somewhere has already attempted verification. It's not like I'm the only one with the brilliant idea of increasing value by getting it verified.

True and I've found some great signatures in the wild, but I guess I'm thinking Stan Lee and Jack Kirby level of value.

I saw an old Stan Lee sig that I had to look up in some type of archives to match it up. I could tell from the match I found (looks nothing like his most current sig)I was 100 percent positive it was real. So confident, I resold the book before I had it in hand with the guarantee to the buyer that if it came back un-authenticated, I would buy the book back. Sent to CBCS, came back verified. They’re still out there in the wild.

Why is Comic Link's discount for the fees charged to grade books 20% for CGC and only 10% CBCS? Wouldn't CBCS want to be at the same discount or greater to drive business?

(BTW, before we get into any fees charged by either company, I believe the discounts were at these levels before any price increases).

Being #2 in the market, every book that gets sold online is a little piece of free publicity for the CBCS brand. If I were CBCS and I knew for certain that the books would be sold in the Comiclink auction, I would probably be offering something like 60% off Walk-Through pricing. I would try to attract higher dollar books and I would turn them around real quick for the auction house.

I don't have any insight into it, or CGC pricing, but I assumed it was just because a CBCS membership gets you about 10% off. It's exactly what they advertise: https://www.comiclink.com/service_text.asp?392 (if the URL doesn't work, that's the page if you click '10% off CBCS grading!' from the page below)

FYI, it shows me 15% for CGC now https://www.comiclink.com/service_text.asp?393 (if the URL doesn't work, that's the page if you click 'grading services' from the main page)

Interesting, under the Selling Service Options in the Services page (Services they show...

"We can be extremely helpful to sellers in processing their vintage comic book collections for sale. Collections containing raw (books not CGC and CBCS graded) books that qualify (generally those published in the 1960s and earlier or ultra high-grade 1970s material) can be filtered for items that make sense to get CGC and CBCS graded (where the increase in value outweighs the cost) and if they are valuable enough, we will submit them to CGC or CBCS, lay out the CGC or CBCS fees, pass along our 20% CGC or 10% CBCS discount, and charge the lower 10% commission rate."

That's the information I was quoting. Maybe the haven't updated that page?

See below for a screen shot.

Either way the CGC discount is higher and was higher in the past.

Maybe they don't get the CBCS volume to rate for a bigger discount? Or maybe CGC just offers deeper discounts for auction houses?

So let's say the CBCS discount on ComicLink was exactly the same as the CGC discount. How many more submission would that create per year for CBCS? I'm going to guess zero. Go big or go home.

The discounts were different because the pricing was different. The cgc was more expensive than CBCS, so the discount was smaller on the CBCS side. I'm not sure what it is now.

I know I read this somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

I have 10 books in grading right now and they are going to be for sale. Once I get them I am just going to send them off to MCS. I wanted to know how I would go about getting MCS to pick them up instead of them being shipped back to me.

Also if I can get them to pick them up will I be refunded on the shipping charges I already paid for?

Thanks

Yeah, the obvious point I wasn't going to make is that you're starting from a different price basis to begin with. So the idea that Comiclink customers are going to choose CBCS over CGC simply by matching something as subjective as the perceived discount kind of loses steam. My point is that if CBCS really wanted to pull any Comiclink sellers away from CGC, it would require a grand gesture, something like 60% off Walkthrough prices, not simply matching the discount.
