Not so much a question as a comment: a new convention in NJ was supposed to run last year, but obviously got postponed. They were going to have CBCS and some kind of discount. Now, CBCS apparently can't make the new date and they set up a CGC submission partnership instead. Bummer.

EGerber has their own, but there are variations sold for fabric and sewing use. It’s acid free and on a Mylar bag will softly stick to itself again after being pulled apart the first time (my experience so far). I also don’t worry too much about snagging a book on it. 1 roll goes a long way using an eyeballed 1 to 1-1/2 inch strip per bag; I suppose you could use less. Here’s a craft version that I’m currently using ![]() |

Not a question, but didn’t want to start a new thread. if you are looking to unload some copies of Spawn 302 thru 309; MCS is paying up to $9.00 for NM copies. I’m definitely glad to see some new Spawners increase in value somewhere ![]() |

Why is it that we get "controversial" threads about this character or that one sleeping with whomever, but DC's announcement on Superman's slogan no longer having "the American Way" in it draws crickets?

I found a number of articles from 10 years ago when Superman, in a (probably?) non-canon back-up story, renounced his US citizenship. Which is interesting, because I have no idea what canon is or was but I can't imagine that any superhero with a secret identity has US citizenship. They don't have social security cards, drivers licenses, etc. Clark Kent is a US citizen (at least in our world it would be tough for him not to be, given his backstory), but not Superman. Anywho, from what I googled it sounds like the 'American Way' change is for the same reason as the citizenship thing - Superman is supposed to be an international symbol/property, so they're deemphasizing the US part. I guess my question would be if anyone would notice in any meaningful way? Do they print the slogan on the cover or something like that? |

@CaptainCanuck and @xkonk I think my question was more about those that get their panties in a bunch about a character's sexuality being changed but could care less about other defining changes in characters. It is a defining change. How does one defining change trump another? Shouldn't they be of equal concern? Personally, I could care less about the change of slogan or whom Clark's son sleeps with. Just like I don't care that Lois Lane or Dick Grayson sleep or have slept with characters that aren't human. I think my views on changing characters got moved when someone wrote that the old characters still exist in old issues. All one has to do is open a book before the changes happened and they are still there. I thought that was a truism that I wish I had come up with. At the end of the day, I think DC is doing all of this in an attempt to generate any kind of press about the company that they can. They can't pay for it themselves if the rumors concerning sales, costs, and debt are true. |

"The American Way" was always a pretty nebulous statement. No detail, just a vague general assertion that Americans were more virtuous than average. Something you get to say for a generation after you win the big one.

@Towmater I'm not one of those folks, so I can't answer that part for you. I'm also not a regular Superman reader, so I can't answer the 'defining change' part either. Is Superman actually going to do things differently, or are they just changing the marketing?

Not really political. Just a different take on the character that people didn't take issue with. Least I forget, didn't one of the other "controversial" threads get locked? Nobody got any time off either. |

. That Superman book was released in 2003. It’s been almost 20 years and a lot has changed. If it were released today, DC and Millar’s motives would probably be more scrutinized. |

If you have a manufacturing error comic, are you a "oops, no one wants this, let me lower the price" person or a "so rare! three times FMV!" person? https://www.ebay.com/itm/154658266297?hash=item240259dcb9:g:Fz4AAOSwlzdhbbXw

@Siggy yeah, it's an incomplete story. On the other hand, does it matter once it's in a slab? Earlier in the thread @Bronte linked to an example where the pages were all there (and thus the story complete), they were just put in the cover backwards or upside down (or something, maybe both). That was also graded as 'qualified' due to the manufacturer error, but again it doesn't matter in a practical sense.
