CBCS doesn't do restoration removal. Just pressing

I recently purchased my first book with a signature on the cover. When I send it in, will a pressing have any effect on the signature?

It shouldn't. Books with signatures have been pressed without an issue. But I believe it depends on what they used to sign with. if it's pen ink, Sharpie's or the like, you should be fine.

I got another question people,I'm upgrading my bags to Mylar silver from E.Gerber. And was using scotch tape going horizontal to seal. When I decided to open one of them back up to read i found out the tape will split right at the seams, so I have to scrape the tape off and start over. So now I fold one end to pull to stop that from happening and I'm trying the two sided tape.So what I wanted to know is there a good way to remove the damage tape without damage to the bags. I have been using razor blades, but it take patience that I don't have anymore,so anyone that any suggestion is well appreciated, Thanks

honestly you’re better off leaving it or replacing the bag. I’ve been using archival adhesive which satisfies some OCD issues for me🤓

I've used Avery dots instead of scotch tape. The dots do a very good job at covering up any residue if the old dot tear or leave behind sticky residue.

Huh. I thought manufacturing errors could limit grades, like you can't get a 9.9 or maybe 9.8, but I've never seen it result in a qualified grade before. I wonder how they decide what needs to be qualified versus what's "just an error".

@xkonk - A 9.8 looks a lot better than a 0.3 incomplete. I have the Superman and Ali Treasury with a similar manufacturing error - it has the correct number of pages, but some are duplicates of pages that are already there. Because you cannot read the whole story, it's technically incomplete. I almost submitted it for a CBCS Raw Grade, but decided not to, fearing the 0.3 grade.

@esaravo smart. I think the 0.5 or 0.3 grade will one day be obsolete and replaced by a grading system that provides more information on the overall book, such as the CGC Qualified grade. It's difficult to imagine a scenario where an incomplete grade would have more value to a buyer or seller than a Qualified grade.

That isn't low grade; mid-high grade qualified.

Speaking of which...

I certainly agree on some people being happier seeing the 9.8 in the corner, so I'm not surprised that's what they opted for. And I guess an incomplete book should be qualified even if it's a manufacturer issue; I'd just never personally seen a manufacturer defect get a purple label before.

Although @Bronte's example is an interesting case. It says the book was basically put in wrong (or the cover put on wrong; who's to say?). So it isn't incomplete or missing anything, and it got a qualified grade. Seems like we're getting into weird edge cases, but I guess that's why people go to the pros.

Not so much a question as a comment: a new convention in NJ was supposed to run last year, but obviously got postponed. They were going to have CBCS and some kind of discount. Now, CBCS apparently can't make the new date and they set up a CGC submission partnership instead. Bummer.

EGerber tape clickable text

It’s extremely thin about 1/4 inch wide. Stick in on and peel the paper backing away. EGerber has their own, but there are variations sold for fabric and sewing use. It’s acid free and on a Mylar bag will softly stick to itself again after being pulled apart the first time (my experience so far). I also don’t worry too much about snagging a book on it. 1 roll goes a long way using an eyeballed 1 to 1-1/2 inch strip per bag; I suppose you could use less.

Here’s a craft version that I’m currently using
