Pictures? We don't need no stinking pictures. brysb private msg quote post Address this user
I think we all know pencilers/artists who had bad inkers...

Talk about some of them..

Here is one of my examples that I have used in the past, but it demands repeating...

GEORGE PEREZ PENCILS

It's like a PRIMITIVE CAVEMAN inked #166!!!

Vince Colletta was ATROCIOUS!!!

First off. Have you personally ever inked? It's easy to pass judgement if you've never done it.

Secondly, do you know the context of the inking project dynamic? Was 166 a rush job to the press? Generally Vince was the guy they pulled in to get a project done before press time. Everyone forgets that monthly comics is a business and the press never stops.
Would Sinnot's work suffer if he was constantly pumping out rush jobs at dozens of pages over the weekend? Because some penciller couldn't get his schedule together...
I personally have lettered manga books of 300+ pages in 2 weeks and can't say it was my best work. But it made it to the press on time and unfortunately that's all that matters to publishers.
And page rates? After all you get what you pay for and Sinnot's page rate was higher than Colletta for sure.
I love both Sinnot and Colletta inks just because they made comics for us all.

@CEPubDude I appreciate your defense of Vince Colletta, it's important to understand circumstances that people are put in. We don't criticize an Offensive Lineman for not scoring touchdowns. Some people are given opportunity to shine, and others spend their careers playing triage and trying to minimize damage. On the other hand, the defense you offer also helps to explain and legitimize why people see the Joe Sinnott output as superior to the Vince Colletta output.
