I had a delicious greek salad with octopus for lunch today at Pegasus in Greek Town. I added a couple of photos of the strip too. |

The Astoria Pastry Shop is awesome. I broke my diet today and had to have a piece of baklava. The pastry shop is in the middle of the strip. If you come to Detroit, I would recommend spending a couple hours in Greektown. The casino is literally right above Pegasus too and have sports betting. Back in September I made some SuperBowl wagers. I have slips for 3 teams to win it all. Rams, Packers, and Ravens, Have a Happy New Year! |

@BrianGreensnips I haven't had octopus since I was in Lafayette back in 1995 training some computer programers. Also my first experience eating cow tounge (with brown gravy and onions), with rice, and boiled squash,... followed by a heaping bowl of banana pudding. The Cajuns in the hole-in-wall diners on the old side of town know how to feed you. |

Kept it simple and cracked out a fun cheese plate. We ate half the parm stuffed dates pre-photo… scrounged together some leftover olives too. Will admit dates are (in my opinion) very unappetizing to look at. Stuffed with parm, caramelized and paired with a vodka martini (and later whisky) … they are quite delicious. |

Just me and the wife for New Years, and she over-did it again. I made ribs, she made pot stickers, wontons, cheesesteak egg rolls, chili dip, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, and a pepperoni stromboli. Here’s the ribs |

@Bronte sounds like fun. Quick tip on woks (well - two). Keep batches small. Get a proper wok spatula if you don’t have one already. Make sure your burner is up to the task for whatever wok type you are using. If not, a “Western” style fry pan may be more effective. |

@Davethebrave I go with the flow, I let him play with his toys and I don't ask a lot of questions. But as far as I can tell, a standard stove doesn't get hot enough. When I say he got a wok, that was kind of a lie of omission.. he also got a propane burner for outside cooking. That thing is like a literal flame thrower. The garage is getting full with his toys. 2 smokers, a pizza oven. The propane burner, a standard propane bbq grill and he is trying to convert this harbor freight cart so he can move stuff in and out of garage easier. Edit. I draw the line on the mustang. That stays no natter how many other toys he buys.... |

I'm not sure if this is a chicken taco or a chicken fajita. Either way, I'm eating it. |

@Bronte in that case you/your bro are set. Might even say it is a wok in the park with an outdoor propane burner. Edit: still recommend a good spatula. If you are like most people most of your non-fish spatulas are wood or silicone (or plastic). You will want a long handled, steel spatula for wok cooking. |

Yesterday afternoon I smoked a pork loin. I habitually start my smoker to late in the day. I think my sandwich I made was good. The toppings are kinda leaning off to left I just noticed. I bet I was as well. |

Yesterday I went to an old school sit-down Chinese restaurant. Like straight out of Christmas Story, the kind that feel like they've always been there. Small place, just the old lady working the front of the house and the old man working the kitchen. Formica tables, Pinkish vinyl booths and hot tea followed by egg flower soup and crispy noodles with hot mustard dipping sauce. Then the fried shrimp and spring roll appetizer followed by Sweet and Sour pork and Chicken Chow Mein...choice of white rice or fried rice. The "executive lunch"...$11.95 each for two or more people. Haven't done that in a few years, it was a really pleasant experience. | ||

Trying to continue to eat healthy from home today. Pink salmon filet with grilled peppers and onions over a bed of spring mix, drizzled with honey vinaigrette. Funny how I made this dish for under $5. and a restaurant would charge about $28. for the same thing. |

Power has been out since 5:30 am. So, today I've had a bowl of cold cereal, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and a bologna and cheese sandwich. I may stay at the office tonight, which has electricity, and bake a frozen pizza in the oven. |

Tonight I am once again preparing @esaravo's rice and black bean recipe. The meat will be... a pan fried pork chop cooked medium well. Separate the meat from the bone, slice about 1/8" thick and 1/4" long. And some ham diced about 1/4" cubes. It is simple to prepare, inexpensive, and it is delicious. Edit.. also going to add 3 tablespoons of Rotel hot diced tomatoes with habaneros. |
