OT; What are you eating or cooking?14395

" . " Davethebrave private msg quote post Address this user
@Pre_Coder Give home cooking a try. Lobster is an easy cook. Bake, butter poach or lightly salted water boil. Lemon definitely not needed.

Butter or cocktail sauce, either will do.

I did a super simple quick boil and then sliced and chilled. Need to first split the tail shell before cooking.

Good stuff and worth trying a simple split/boil at home.

Easier to prep and cook than 90% of seafood. Much easier than shrimp. DM for any tips or questions. Happy to help if able to.

To add re: sides. Root veggies (potatoes, carrots) are great, so is…virtually anything. I’m a fan of asparagus with steak and surf and turf works (steak/lob/asp) so why not lobster and asparagus. I might avoid broccoli or peas.

Chilled lobster is great too. That is how we had ours for Christmas Eve.

Made smothered chicken with onions, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese for my parents tonight with broccoli and dinner rolls. It was my sister's night to bring dinner, but she flaked because of her dumb ass husband. No pictures because we ate, I cleaned up, and hid all the leftovers before the shitheads finally arrived. It was good.

Used an aluminum pan that was warped. The bottom didn't end up crunchy, but the taste of the pie was really good.

Need to invest in a Detroit style pan.

A Detroit style pan is made from a recycled car rim.... good luck.

@HeinzDad

I was thinking lloyds on Amazon. Not true detroit pan because it is aluminum, but folks say results are comparable to true detroit steel.

Not exactly. It was a pan used to hold car parts.

I can't stand peppers. But onions are great. But half the pizza has no cheese. My brother is on a lactose free diet to see if he is allergic to milk and cheese.

Not a big green pepper fan. They hurt my stomach.

There are plenty of aluminum rims at the scrap yard, you may be onto something.

Green peppers on a pie is heart burn express.

Talking about Detroit Pizza. I am very disappointed that this one closed. I am actually going to Greektown tomorrow. I will have to settle for Pegasus and get some octopus instead.

Sad to say that since Covid a lot of restaurants have closed up. I love Greektown but there are only 2 greek restaurants left down there that I can think of. I love octopus and don't get it too often. So being our favorite pizza place is closed, I will go to my next favorite.

The pizza octopus in town here is still going. I could cart you a pie. Maybe cut shipping off the Kaluta print, hahaha.

Prepped and cooked lobster for chilled apps tonight, along with stuffed dates, and a selection of cheese and olives. Going to be a small pasta dish that the babies can eat and then the majority will be apps-as-dinner (steamed homemade pork dumplings (we made 40), spring rolls, dates, lobster, shrimp). Champagne bottle number one now and then another for midnight.

All for two adults and two kids. Fun times.

Kids won’t be enjoying the champagne and my wife is a lightweight so hopefully I don’t buy any comics under the influence tonight.

I had a delicious greek salad with octopus for lunch today at Pegasus in Greek Town. I added a couple of photos of the strip too.

The Astoria Pastry Shop is awesome. I broke my diet today and had to have a piece of baklava.
The pastry shop is in the middle of the strip. If you come to Detroit, I would recommend spending a couple hours in Greektown. The casino is literally right above Pegasus too and have sports betting. Back in September I made some SuperBowl wagers. I have slips for 3 teams to win it all. Rams, Packers, and Ravens,

Have a Happy New Year!

@BrianGreensnips I haven't had octopus since I was in Lafayette back in 1995 training some computer programers. Also my first experience eating cow tounge (with brown gravy and onions), with rice, and boiled squash,... followed by a heaping bowl of banana pudding.

The Cajuns in the hole-in-wall diners on the old side of town know how to feed you.

Kept it simple and cracked out a fun cheese plate. We ate half the parm stuffed dates pre-photo… scrounged together some leftover olives too.

Will admit dates are (in my opinion) very unappetizing to look at. Stuffed with parm, caramelized and paired with a vodka martini (and later whisky) … they are quite delicious.

Just me and the wife for New Years, and she over-did it again. I made ribs, she made pot stickers, wontons, cheesesteak egg rolls, chili dip, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, and a pepperoni stromboli. Here’s the ribs
