Trading Card BRICKING!!?14378

Pictures? We don't need no stinking pictures. brysb private msg quote post Address this user
I just discovered a new term in the Trading Card industry...BRICKING!

So...I have this Star Trek Cinema 1994 6 Movie Widescreen set, had it for years, just a couple of days ago I opened one of the boxes of cards, they were ALL stuck together like GLUE!!! When I pried them apart the cards were basically destroyed! I was so pissed I just threw the entire set into the TRASH!!!!! So I then googled about this and the term "BRICKING" seemed to apply. I keep my place at a constant temperature around 72-74 degrees, so not hot or too humid.

From what I have read is that a lot of trading cards from the 1990's that have high gloss on both sides have this issue called "BRICKING"! I watched a few YouTube videos where people were unpacking trading card boxes and experienced the same issues. The main culprits seem to be Skybox cards, Stadium Club cards and other sets that have high gloss applied to both sides of the cards, including Marvel Masterpiece card sets.

Any input?

I’ve seen it before.

Definitely a bummer, especially for high value cards. I’d suppose the best way to avoid it is penny sleeves or toploaders.

I agree, let them breath, do not let them sit for years touching/clinging together, separate them immediately and store in individual sleeves or pages.

I feel bad for people buying sealed card boxes of these glossy Marvel Masterpieces...like Russian roulette.

To answer your question, no, this is not where the comics go to die. MutantMania private msg quote post Address this user
Just happened to me recently. An entire long card box of 1995 fleer ultra X-Men cards and half a box of 93 Marvel Masterpieces.....bricked!
Totally destroyed and trashed.
It sucks 😞

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@brysb - that really sucks. But, i will also say thank you the the Public Service Announcement. I had no idea that “Brinking” was a thing outside of basketball.

While I hd no intentions of buying cards, I was seriously thinking of open some cards and sending in for grade. Going to seriously rethink that on some of those cards now.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
Are the 1993 Marvel Masterpieces now worth something ungraded?
